Based on my first visit, Dr. Pantera sent me to physical therapy and had me get an MRI for my cervical spine. At the second visit, a month later, Dr. Pantera expressed surprise at the seriousness of damage to my cervical spine based on the MRI and said I should have immediate surgery. When I told him I would not consider surgery without a second opinion, he said I could be paralyzed if my neck moved the wrong way, and I could get a doctor to say whatever I wanted to hear. He also said I should have carpal tunnel surgery on one arm. He did further nerve testing. I got a second opinion from another neurologist who said I probably should have surgery and I should see a neurosurgeon for another opinion. My internist referred me to a major university for further consultation. Dr. Pantera also had no idea what the physical therapist had been doing for my neck as he had not looked at the notes but he told me to quit going to PT, which I did. He and my internist also suggested a soft collar in the car until the next consultation, which I obtained and have been wearing. I think Dr. Pantera is knowledgeable, and he answered my questions, but at the same time he is condescending, and I found it amazing that he thought I would simply look for a doctor to tell me I do not need surgery as opposed to a doctor who will examine the results, do further testing as needed, and give me an objective opinion. Obviously, I do not want to undergo surgery, but if it is deemed necessary, then I will.
