About

Edward Buchsbaum, MD

South Bay Allergy and Asthma Associates was created in 1991 when Dr. Edward Buchsbaum and Dr. Joyce Schoettler partnered to provide their own unique brand of specialty allergy and asthma care to pediatric and adult patients in the South Bay community.

We put our patients' goals first. Whether your goal is to participate in a favorite sport without triggering an asthma attack or to find a way to coexist with a beloved pet that is causing itchy eyes and sneezing; perhaps your goal is to find and eliminate the source of an itchy rash, maybe your goal is to golf, garden or simply enjoy the springtime without suffering from allergies. We strive to understand what is important to each patient and custom tailor a treatment plan to maximize successful treatment outcomes.

Gave a medication that was not even pharmacologically recommended in acute attack of asthma. Patient continued to suffer badly and was ultimately treated by someone else who was ready to understand walk the extra mile with the patient by prescribing more relevant medications that eventually treated asthma exacerbation.

I have been going to Dr. Buchsbaum for at least 6 years with my allergies. I am getting shots and still suffer terribly during the the allergy season. In the beginning, I hated going there because his staff were rude. Having multiple kids, I find their hours for getting shots very limited. Whenever it is convenient for me, I'd go and they will shake their heads to tell me they are closed. They are closed on Weds, somedays in the morning and somedays in the afternoon and take a long lunch break. It is frustrating on top of their rude staff. Also, you can never get anyone to answer the phone when you need to talk to someone. You need to leave a message and they call you back later in the day or the next day.

Recently, they actually changed the entire staff team which is SO much better. They are much nicer and more helpful. However, the Doctors are still the same :-( They are sort of cold and overall, not very good. Like I said, I still have terrible allergies after having been there for about 6 years.

My 2 yr old daughter had numerous food and environmental allergies. So I took her to that office as well as it is in the same building as her pediatrician. She saw his partner Dr Schottler. Dr. S seems nice but will NOT talk to me if I have any questions once I step out of the office. She will talk to me through her staff in front of me.

After I transfered my daughter to Dr Buchsbaum, I made an appointment for her to see him. She had a terrible rash and was scratching vigorously at his office with visible rash/hives on her from some drug allergy. She had gone to the ER the night before. The staff actually told me I had to reschedule because they did not get authorization from the insurance company yet. Told me to come back in a couple of days to wait for the authorization to go through. Even though the Dr. had an open slot, he would not even look at my toddler who was suffering. What ever happened to heath CARE??? I went to my pediatrician immediately and found that the authorization had just gone through. Thankfully, they made an appointment for me to see another allergist who took us in immediately as an emergency case.

I do NOT recommend this office at all. New staff is nice in a superficial way. Don't go there - Not for the doctors or the nurse practitioner. Very disappointing.
