Many years ago I woke up with a pain in my eye. It was like it was torn and someone had thrown sand in it on top of that. Except for the sand, Dr. Goloff said I was pretty much on the mark. I had a Corneal abrasion. This is when the inside lid of the eye sticks to the cornea while you're sleeping and when you open up your eye, voila! OUCH. Goloff fit me in to his busy schedule and kept sending someone out to check on me while I was waiting. When he saw me, he immediately knew what it was. Simple. Put some special healative antibiotic ointment on the surface of the eye, then close it, make an eye patch so I don't open the eye, and by the end of the day, the eye was better. You know, it's not that I felt the guy was a genius, though of course he was extremely smart, it's that he was kind, a little funny, personable, answered all questions, joked with me when I joked and was serious when I was serious. He knows his stuff and applies respect and some human kindness. Of course this was just once, so it's only anecdotal. But this morning I'm sitting here with a repeat performance and I know just where I'm going to go.
