Dr. Ramirez, months after my surgery where he was the anesthesiologist, sent me a billl for $127.50 for his services. After 3 phone calls where why insurance carrier said he had been paid, the docotor's office sent a collection letter.

Eventually, I was told they didn't accept my insurance. I sent them a letter which contained the following:

I have enclosed a check, #5798, for the billed amount of $127.65. Of course I do this, begrudgingly, due to your threat of impacting my credit rating. This method of ‘surprise billing’ may or may not be legal but it is certainly an unethical business practice.

My business is automotive repair. Imagine if after performing a repair on your vehicle that I said you owed $127.65. An amount you never agreed to. Would you file a Better Business Bureau complaint? And or file a complaint with the Attorney General’s Office? And or send out negative social media reviews? What would you do?

I never heard from them/him again.
