I was a patient at Genesis Women’s Center for the past ten years, mainly due to convenience. The first issue I had was with Regina, their ARNP. When I was 16 I went in for severe pelvic pain. Instead of checking me, she insisted to myself and my parents that I was ‘simply ovulating.’ A month later I ended up in the ER with pelvic inflammatory disease, caused by an untreated bacterial infection that I had mistaken for a recurring yeast infection. I was left with extensive scar tissue in my fallopian tubes and a verdict that I may never be able to conceive.
After pelvic laparoscopy and laser removal of this scar tissue six years later, performed by a physician at a different facility, I conceived. I had started working at the local hospital and was told that I would have to go back to Genesis in order to be covered by the hospital’s insurance. At this time I had decided to have a natural birthing plan. During one of my OB appointments, Dr. Antony had asked if I had ‘signed up’ to have the epidural. I told him I had not, because in my moment of weakness I did not want to give in. He told me that I was ‘naïve and closed minded.’ There was no support whatsoever from any of the physicians at the office, but I did not expect this type of harshness.
The last problem I had would be the most important of them all. The breach of my medical records. Throughout my continued stay as a patient at Genesis, the medical assistant there, along with her fellow coworkers, logged into the hospital’s computer system (which they have access to as an affiliate of the hospital) and searched through my lab work and results I had done outside their facility. Fabricated rumors were spread by the medical assistant to her friends and family about my lab results, and she was believed due to her position. This is currently being investigated with the Department of Health and Human Services.
If you wish to have the best possible OB/GYN care and have your issues kept between yourself and your physician, DO NOT GO TO GENESIS WOMEN’S CENTER.

Today was my 2nd visit to GWC. I understand sometimes you need to wait an additional 15 - 20 minutes when a Dr. is running behind, but I finally went up to the front desk after being there for nearly an hour to make sure I hadn't been forgotten and was told I needed to wait another 10 minutes. This didn't start things off well. I then was taken back to a dirty exam room where the used paper bedding was still on the exam table. The nurse did change that but left the paper pillow case that had clearly been used by the previous client on the table. I asked her to please change it too, she said she would but never did, so I just tossed it aside. She also asked me how to spell fatigue when I was listing my symptoms, would think a nurse would know this, I'm not quite even sure she knew what it meant. When I finally saw my Dr. she looked like she hadn't slept for a week, she was so tired and I felt guilty she was having to hear about my issues. She was very nice though. While I had my feet in the stirrups getting an exam 2 people tried to enter the room, which made me feel really uncomfortable, get some locks on the doors! One lady/nurse/whatever was yelling my name and had a piece of paper waving it into the room. The Dr. was literally in the middle of the internal exam and of course I was naked. The Dr. had to yell "I'm in the middle of an exam, leave the papers outside! No apology for the interruption (twice in less than 10 min) so I guess this happens often. Also, my deductible had been met, but I still had to pay because the financial dept. didn't call my ins. co. even after I had told them the deductible was met. Double checked when I got home and I shouldn't have had to pay anything.
