I had a recent appointment with Dr. Edmiston and I can't say it went very well. She was very opinionated, pushy and condescending. On several occasions, while explaining extremely trivial staff, she actually kept asking : "Are you following??" with intonations similar to the ones you use with a silly child or imbecile. I would have still disregarded her manners, some people are just that way, especially when they speak to the foreigners, but her expertize was questionable as well. For example, she completely denied ANY increase in breast cancer rates caused by the frequent mammograms, while as a physicist I can tell you that any ionizing radiation increases the risk of cancer, may be marginally so, but it does and it all adds up. That is also well supported by the recent research, for example see "Radiation Doses and Cancer Risks from Breast Imaging Studies " Radiology August 24, 2010, doi: 10.1148 or just google it. Also, she told me that it doesn't increase my risk of having BRCA gene in the event when my farther as well as my mother has it (versus the case when only my mother has it), which is well, vexing...she was also unable to answer some (well, most) of my other questions, which didn't seem that difficult to me, but they clearly went beyond her level of expertise. I hope this is helpful and yes, I am not going to have a follow up with her and wouldn't recommend her to anyone.
