I was referred to Dr. Vukasin for a prostate problem. Weeks before, my prostate was becoming sore, and I was given antibiotics by my regular doctor to treat me for prostatitis. By the time I saw Dr. Vukasin, the soreness had gone away. But as I began to explain to Dr. Vukasin, just a few days before my visit with him my soreness seemed to be returning. I was trying to explain to Vukasin that the soreness was only periodic, but it was similar to my past experience and I had a feeling the problem was returning.

Dr. Vukasin immediately interrupted my brief communication of my concern and said he wasn't concerned about what I was feeling a few days ago - "what do you feel today? right now?". I told him that it felt fine at the moment, but-- he didn't want to hear the "but" part. He interrupted again and said he wanted to check for himself, he put his finger up there and it wasn't sore, so he said there was absolutely nothing wrong.

Wrong. I was right. Within a week, my prostate had become sore again. It had crept in, just as it had before. And the first, earliest signs of it were only periodic. But slowly and surely, the soreness creeps in until it reaches the point where it's almost constant.

I went back to my regular doctor, and now I'm back on antibiotics, and we're considering the case "chronic prostatitis". So we're doing 4 weeks of Levaquin instead of the normal 2.

Dr. Vukasin certainly did come across as very intelligent. But ya know, doctors can be intelligent til the cows come home - but a doctor that won't take the (little) time to just listen to a patient - that's not only discourteous to me, it's just downright unprofessional. So many doctors these days are so hurried and rushed - and ya know what, the whole time they're making tons of money. But they get so rushed and their routine seems to cause them to perceive their patients as cattle. All they care about is doing the standard, routine procedures and practices. Any concerns that are felt by the patient are not taken into consideration until a problem arises that is calculable by their instruments.

And that, my friends, is the sign of a doctor gone bad, as far as I'm concerned.

For standard procedures, it's my guess that this man knows what he's doing. But if you want a doctor that will be personable and take time to listen to concerns you might have, Dr. Vukasin is not your man. I had to drill him for information to set my mind at ease. As I was asking him questions like "So, we don't have to worry about doing any tests for possible cancer, or anything like that?", he gave fairly curt, but knowledgable responses. My basic impression was that he felt my case was simple, open-and-shut, let's get it done and get him out the door so I can move on to other more important business.

Business. That's the one word that I would use to describe Dr. Vukasin in a nutshell.

"Business".

Health care is more than just a business. There's a human factor that a lot of doctors have lost. Perhaps many of them never really had a care for it.

Lastly, I'll add that the services provided to me by Dr. Vukasin are being paid for by the clinic that I use for my health care. I don't have a choice about who I go to for this prostate problem. If I had a choice, I would be looking for someone else to go to. If Dr. Vukasin had listened to my concerns a month ago, I might have already healed from this second case of prostatitis.

It's my hope that whoever reads this, including Dr. Vukasin, himself, might be inspired to remember that the patient-doctor relationship is a two-way street. If a doctor doesn't let you speak about what you're feeling - find someone else! And KEEP SPEAKING ABOUT IT UNTIL YOU GET HELP. How many times have you seen people on TV talk about how their doctor didn't listen to them, but they KNEW there was something wrong. Don't let a doctor's impatience and lack of concern intimidate you. Find someone else who WILL listen. If you can't afford to g
