My son saw Dr. Turner as a first opinion, but decided to have surgery with a second opinion, out of state Urologist (whom Dr. Turner is familiar with), and who Dr. Turner agreed (off the record) would be the best person to do this complicated procedure.

My son called Dr. Turner's office to see if Dr. Turner would continue to be his Urologist locally after discharge from the out of state hospital since there will be close followup and monitoring required for the rest of my son's life. He spoke with Amy, Dr. Turner's nurse, who said that Dr. Turner recommends my son stay out of state 1 month post-op for follow up (even though the out of state Urologist said he could stay only 2 weeks post op). He was told Dr. Turner would see my son only if there was an emergency after he gets back home, but he does not want to follow up with any routine post-op care such as suture removal or stent removal, which might occur after my son has come back home after surgery.

This is NOT patient centered care! If it were, my son would be welcomed back and treated as needed. This is physician centered care...where the physician's needs (and perhaps ego?) are placed before the patient's needs! The physician doesn't want to be bothered with taking care of a post op patient if a different surgeon performed the surgery, even though logistics make it impossible for long term follow up with the surgeon.
