I was diagnosed with melanoma in-citu a few weeks ago. I was referred to Dr. Culbertson for surgery as the initial incision came back positive and I needed to find someone who could do another incision to check to see if the melanoma was still present (needed a 5mm Incision). Dr. Culbertson was referred to me because my dermatologist was concerned about where the mole was located and the difficulty with scarring as well as the incision healing properly as it was located on my right calf just below the knee.

I called Dr. Culberson's office and was given an appointment right away. She met with me and reviewed the surgical procedure from beginning to end in terms of the process, wound care, medications, stitches and follow up. We scheduled the surgery for 11:45 on a monday morning at the Physicians surgicenter in Frederick MD. She met me at the surgicenter and again, reviewed the process from beginning to end.

The surgery took the amount of time she told me it would and she provided me with appointment cards noting the times and dates of the follow up treatment. As I did not have insurance, the cost for the entire consultation, surgery and follow up appointments was extremely reasonable.

Dr. Culbertson was always on time, always took the time to answer any questions I had and was always professional and compassionate in the discussions I had with her. Honestly - the diagnosis of melanoma caught me off guard and so I was pretty anxious with what the procedure was for getting treatment / surgery. My Dermatologist, Dr. Moe referred me to Dr. Culbertson and continued to follow up with me as well to check on how things were going. My last appointment with Dr. Culbertson was yesterday and my plan is to follow up with Dr. Moe for another evaluation in 3 months. Both physicians have provided exceptional care and I would recommend Dr. Culbertson highly for any surgical procedure you may need. Of note, her website is http://www.taculbertson.com.

My 2 year old son was attacked by a dog. I was referred to this doctor by the plastic surgeon that was on call at the emergency room in NJ. My son was attacked Saturday night... I was told by the ER, the pedeatric center, and by the on call plastic surgeon that I needed to get an appointment to get it the wound checked out the next day. Obviously Sunday isn't a normal day for doctors, so I made an appointment on Monday... They had told me that this appointment would be just to switch the bandages and that we could come in on Wednesday to really get it checked out. The lady at the desk told me that there would be no co-pay for the first visit since it was just to change his bandages. Much to my surprise, after having one hell of a rough time getting my traumatized 2yr old and his 6mth old sister out the door to this appointment.... they did not change his bloody bandages. They also charged us a $30 co-pay.... for a visit that turned out to be completely POINTLESS. Now if I wasn't already ticked off enough... I called to tell them I would not pay 2 co-pays and that they needed to apply that to my actual appointment on Wednesday... they had the nerve to not only lie to my face about not saying that... and making a bs excuse for making me come in for nothing... but she told me the appointment would have to be moved to thursday. Since both our cars had broken down, my Mom had already took off wednesday to help. The front desk lady told me to have my Mom change that to Thursday. My son had been in a life threatening situation. Every doctor we had talked to said he needed to be seen ASAP and this office had the nerve to give me the run around and THEN LIE. The lady at the front desk was the same person I had been talking to the entire time, and she changed her words to make it fit with what they were doing... oh no, no one said there would be no co-pay... oh the plastic surgeon from NJ had told them it would be best to wait.... BS... I called the plastic surgeon in NJ and they told me they wish they could have seen me, and they understood if I needed to find a different doctor... so that is exactly what I did! I have never been so upset. I was also pretty confused when she told me to give him benedryl before the appointment to make him drowsy. The doctor we saw in the er had said they weren't going to give him anything to make him drowsy when they graphted the skin and stitched him up because they didn't want to take any unecessary risks... but the doctor that was only suppose to change his bandages and look at the wound to make sure it was healing right was telling me to give him an allergy drug so he would be out of it??? He was already taking motrin and an anti-biotic that was messing his poor little stomach all up. I felt like they were just trying to make it easier on themselves??? NO ONE has the right to do this to 2yr old that has been through such trauma. They made so many excuses, and kept pointing the finger at me.... because somehow I must have "misunderstood." I DID NOT. If I had known this was going to happen I would have found another doctor and we would have already gotten this taken care of. Shame on them.
