I was very excited to see Dr. Prentice for my severe lower back pain and my leg pain with muscle weakness. I had to wait for this appointment for almost 4 months (the doctor’s office kept canceling my appointments without rescheduling them, while my symptoms got worse), so when I finally got to the office and I was told that the doctor would see me – I was very happy. However, not for long. For starters – the doctor that I saw was not Dr. Prentice, but Dr. Mitri (who didn’t even introduced himself).
The beginning of the visit looked promising – doctor did ask me what were my complaints, how long did I have my back pain, did it radiate to my legs. However, these were the only questions related to my complaints. The questions – has anyone in my family had high blood pressure or high cholesterol, what kind of alcoholic drink I do prefer have been asked several times though.
The doctor seemed not very happy that I already had a MRI test done, ordered by my PCP; he never wanted to see the actual images even after I suggested it – the report was enough for him - “there were people getting paid to look at images”, I was told. To my question, did he see anything wrong with my spine, he stated, that everything was fine. After I repeated my question several times, the doctor did state that there were some nerves pinched (unfortunately, the report didn’t say that). I was not explained what was found on the MRI.
The main reason I came to see a neurologist was a complete and thorough neurological exam. Dr. Mitri listened to my neck arteries, pretended to listen to my heart; checked my arm and feet strength – and that was it. I kept waiting for a complete neurological exam in vain – the doctor never performed it.
I was never told what the diagnosis was, or what the reason for such severe lower back pain, that I couldn’t even move was, what caused my leg pain and muscle weakness.
