When asked by the receptionist "what brought you to our clinic" when making my initial appointment, I stated that I wanted to make an appointment with Dr. Brody because her online profile listed expertise in complicated care, and I was a high risk pregnancy. I was given an appointment two weeks later, and since no one said otherwise I thought I had secured obstetrician care early in my pregnancy, which I believed my baby needed to survive. Sadly, that belief turned out to be true, and sadly that appointment and all other appointments for over two months were with a nurse only. I called first in mid-September and didn't see a physician (a perinatalogist, not Dr. Brody) until late November, three days after I had picked up my dead babies cremated remains.

I told the nurse on the first visit the reasons that I believed my prior pregnancy had been lost due to cervical insufficiency (a treatable condition, but fatal to the baby if untreated and the baby is too young too survive). The nurse literally totally ignored my concern. I called several weeks later to have my cervix measured because I was afraid it was opening. I was told to leave a message - no one called back. I called the next day to ask to have my cervix measured. Hours later I was told to get a blood test instead. I pushed back (I am a physician myself) and said that a blood test won't tell if my cervix is opening and asked again for measurement. I was worked in and was told it was normal, and that they could measure it every 2 weeks. Dr. Brody still didn't see me despite my urgent calls and that I was a high-risk patient for three separate reasons. She did write a brief note in my chart after my calls which got several important facts about my clinical history wrong (a good reason to actually meet and speak with patients.) The nurse did not discuss any treatment for CI, did not mentione any early signs of a cervix opening, did not let me know that it was perfectly possible for a cervix to open in much less than 2 weeks (so a normal measurement isn't worth much) and didn't mention that if it did open while being watched without treatment it could do so in a way that a cerclage (a stitch in the cervix to keep it closed) would no longer be possible. One way a cerclage would no longer possible is if it opens so completely that the amniotic sac prolapses into non-sterile areas, which is exactly what did happen on November 7, 2013. The baby was fine, but my cervix opened and she was born at 19 weeks...born to die after Dr. Brody provided no treatment for a treatable condition I warned about repeatedly over the nearly 8 weeks from my first contact at Scripps until my cervix opened. I do not consider what I received from Scripps to have been prenatal care, I consider it to be a forced abortion via neglect and negligence.

I have been going to Dr. Brody for years. She has seen me through infertility and then 2 high risk pregnancies. She is loving, caring, and compassionate. She gives her patients confidence and reassurance. I love Dr. Brody and would recommend her highly to anyone looking for an OBGYN.
