I am 25 years old female. I was suffering from severe pelvic pain an year back and that is when I consulted Dr. Lacy. An ultrasound revealed one cyst on my ovary (not of significant size) and he prescribed me birth control pills for three months as treatment. Three months during & after taking the pills, there was no relief to the pain, the pain persisted and became worse while walking, standing and even sitting at desk. I met him after 3 months for a follow up and explained the situation, he immediately told me that I might have to get my ovary surgically removed and handed me a pamphlet about Oophorectomy(this was stated even without taking a second ultrasound). A second ultrasound was performed later to check the size of the cysts and it revealed that my reproductive organs were perfectly fine and cyst reduced to 6mm. Next thing he told me was that I am probably suffering from endometriosis and handed me a pamphlet of lupron treatment. I asked him if a different type of birth control pill could be tried instead on injecting me with lupron and subjecting my body to menopause like side-effects. By the way, even my mother has not hit her menopause !

In short, my experience with him was complete disappointment. Every time I met with him, I was left with a feeling of despair because at the age of 25, I don't want to get rid of my ovary(s) or know that lupron is the one way out for my doctor to help me. He was reluctant to try any other birth control pill and informed me that they all do the same job more or less. It appeared to me that he is keen on getting some surgeries done asap and rob his patients with such high-end treatments.

I did a lot of research online about his proposed plan of treatment with lupron and decided to opt out and consulted another doctor. I have been taking lo loestrin fe since then and side-effects like bloated face, weight gain, acne and mood-swings has reduced considerably other than the pain itself.
I would think twice before going along with his decisions and definitely seek a second opinion for any sort of treatment whatsoever.
