I was referred to Dr. Marvel many years ago when he was still employed with the University of Maryland, for what was believed to be Vulvodynia. Dr. Marvel confirmed the diagnosis and made recommendations to my provider. The only issue I needed to know about at the time was that he would spend time with his patients which made his schedule unpredictable. I can appreciate when patients drive for hours and travel a long distance that he is willing to spend time with them. Once I understood that, my patience was greatly extended. He was very knowledgeable and compassionate and I'm hoping to return to him now that my primary care provider who referred me to him has retired.

Worse “doctor” ever.
I would like to advise any and every woman against seeing this so-called specialist. I already have a doctor who I see regarding a pelvic/skin issue but, wanted to get a second opinion since I have heard that Marvel specialized in this area. First of all, I made sure with his staff that he would be able to answer specific questions; otherwise I would have just stuck with my original doctor. I was advised that he would be able to. Finally the day of my appointment, I arrive 10 minutes early and no one greets me, no hello- no warm welcome. Also, I specifically made my appointment the first one of the day and he was still about 20 minutes late! Then when I walked into his office, no smile, no hello, no hand-shake-he didn’t even bother to introduce himself! I felt uncomfortable and wanted to leave at that point because I just had a horrible feeling but, I stayed. Not only did he not offer me any new advice, he told me he didn’t deal with the specific questions I had regarding my own unique experience. I told him I asked specifically about that. No response. Then the exam- he took labs even though I had no complaints about an infection. And, without any warning, he stood up and jammed his fingers inside me. This “doctor” has absolutely no manners nor bedside manner at all! I was in shock and more than disgusted at his behavior. I had asked if I could send him a biopsy result and he just pushed aside my questions and all concerns. He did not exhibit any care whatsoever towards a new patient and I can’t imagine others experiences have been very different. After my appointment, I instructed the front desk to not process my labs as there was no need. Gwen told me they would not. Then, I even asked for the billing department because I was informed that his appointments were anywhere from $400 to $600 and I REFUSED to pay that much for a 30 minute appointment when I was told it would be an hour and a half to adequately address all of my questions and concerns. When I have seen other specialists in this area, my appointments were 2 hours at least. So when the billing department called me, it was actually Dr. Marvel! I told him how appalled I was at his treatment and all he said was a very rude, dismissive, and paltry “sorry”. He was not sorry at all. I told him to not send in the labs and he confirmed that he wouldn’t. I asked him how much the appointment would be and he could not answer! It was beyond ridiculous! I asked him over and over and he couldn’t tell me! I kept saying Gwen told me it was between $400-600 and he couldn’t give me an answer. Then, he asked me how much my insurance covered and then came up with the number I would have to pay after insurance…yet he couldn’t give me the price he would be charging? Just plain ridiculous. Then I get my bill and not only did he charge me $685 for a crap visit, he sent in the labs when he said he would not! This is the most miserable doctor I have ever met in my 38 years. Ladies, please do yourself a favor and see someone, ANYONE else!
