From the moment she came into the examining room, Dr. Cohen was hostile and rude. I explained to her that I was a physician, and asked her several relevant questions relating to my health. She seemed very annoyed that I would be asking questions. (They were appropriate questions, asked in an appropriate way.) Within 5 minutes, she told me that I ought to be seeing another physician (not one who had particular expertise in my skin problems), referred me to a general dermatologist 1 1/2 hours away from where I lived, and told me that I would need to be seen every 4 months for the rest of my life. She told me that I probably had breast cancer, based on looking at my skin, and seemed surprised when I told her that a recent mammogram was normal. She did a skin biopsy, and would not send me the results, despite the fact that that is not only usually and customary practice, but that it is required by law. Her office said that they would only send the results to the doctor to whom she was referring me.

She completed only half the exam, and said the remaining part would be done by the doctor to whom she referred me. Interestingly, she had also seen my husband, and did only half the exam on the first day, and had him return for the second part on a different day. Each visit was billed separately.

I subsequently went to a different dermatologist (not the one she referred me to). I had to make repeated requests to have my records sent to him. He was able to do the entire exam in one visit, told me that I had no significant skin problems, and said I should return once a year for a routine skin exam.

In my opinion, Dr. Cohen's behavior was extremely unprofessional, as well as quite unusual. The fact that they would not send me, as a physician, the results of a biopsy is a matter of great concern to me.
