I am a patient at the Native American Health center and apparently Dr Pratt is their ONLY dental surgeon. As I read these reviews I am sure that this is the same man that I just had a terrible experience with and I do not understand why this wonderful medical center is subjecting anyone to this person. I value having full knowledge and complete choice in my healthcare and happen to be on Medicare. NAH has and amazing staff that backs kind and competent healthcare professionals for the most part. I have only had problems with Dr Pratt and it seems that it carries over in to his own "professional" practice.
I met this man about a year ago when I came in to get X-rays so that i could monitor the arrival of my wisdom teeth. Knowing that everyone is not the same, I wanted to let my body do what it was going to do naturally, so I was there mainly to get visuals and opinions of what was happening so that I could make an informed decision. Dr Pratt Immediately began to talk AT me with out listening to me. Trying to force his opinion on to me just based on his "years of experience" and not the x-rays in front of him or how i was feeling or thinking. Just based on this I was hoping that I was never going to be subject to this rude opinionated man again. Unfortunately this was not the case. Many months later, after I had been to NAH several times for general health care, dental cleanings and x-rays, ( Which were excellent experiences that made me feel very safe.) the time came to remove my lower molars.
It took me many, many months to get the appointment. I was excited and terrified at the same time. My teeth had been excruciating and effecting my life. I was very prepared to get this procedure. In the back of my mind I prayed that there was going to be a friendly face on the other side of the needle.
When I arrived in the operation room my heart sank.... it was Dr Pratt....
and two assistant that stood silently and strangely uncomfortable in the room with him. He asked me which side hurt the worst as a moved to the chair. I told him my lower right molar was the worst and he proceeded to tell me he was going to pull both molars on my right side only. Which i disagreed with and told him that I only wanted the two bottom wisdoms pulled at this time. He proceeded to tell me that that's not what he was going to do and that my top molar on the right was hurting. I told him that was not the case and that I only wanted the bottom ones pulled. He insisted in an extremely immature back and forth of "No I don't, yes you do... I'm the dentist with 40 yrs experience so i tell you what to do." argument. He told me that if I didn't get the top one removed that i would smash food into the hole and come back to him with an abscess. Thusly judging my self care habits while lying to try to force me in to his will. I sat there feeling angry and powerless not wanting to leave because I needed this operation to function and it had taken a lot just to get there. He told me I could just get out and go to highland hospital if I didn't want to do what he was forcing on me. Thusly brining my lack of income in to play, knowing I was on medicare and that I didn't have much of a choice.
At this point I had told him he wasn't a real doctor because he was choosing not to LISTEN to his patients. He started to say "well if your gonna be a BITCH about it..." that is when I ripped the bib off and dramatically left the room. I had NEVER been treated like that in any doctors office and was not at all about to let a man like that in side of my mouth to tear apart my bones...
IT IS NOT OK TO TAKE AWAY SOMEONES CHOICE ABOUT THEIR OWN BODY EVER!
I felt so powerless and devastated I almost ran all the way out to the street sobbing to get away from this horrid person who was supposed to be a trusted experienced healer. Fortunately I had the presence of mind to make a formal complaint and talk to the folks that needed to know about this monster working in a place that many underprivileged families go to get help and feel safe. I am glad I did and now that I see this is far from a singular incident I will be reporting him to all of the authorities that need to know. This man should not have a license and i would HIGHLY RECOMMEND you find an alternative to this sad little man with a god complex..... who knows what he might try to force on to you...
