I was referred by my GP for Lymphedema treatment described as a compression wrap to lessen the swelling in my leg. Upon arriving I was quickly called into an examination room for a consult. Within 30 seconds the consultant determined that I needed acupuncture. No matter how or how many times I asked about the compression therapy, the reply was "nothing will work but Acupuncture." My insurance does not cover acupuncture so again I asked about the procedure for which I was referred and once again there was no discussion other than to say that it wouldn't work and that I needed acupuncture.

Well, it was pretty obvious that their specialty was acupuncture so I relented and asked about cost. I was told that I would need three treatments a week for 4-6 weeks and maybe more at a cost, with insurance co-pay, of $95 a session or nearly $300 a week!! Not sure how there would be a co-pay if my insurance didn't cover acupuncture, but that was the quote.

I don't have $4000 lying around to have someone stick me with pins that may or may not help. The consultant suggested that I approach family members to pay for my treatment!!

I am now looking for relief elsewhere.
