If you are a young female reconsider all together. Do not go to your appointment alone. Have a patient advocate. My first visit looking at my brain scans he said that this is the type of thing that makes your neurologist want to spank you. The only reason I went for a second visit was at the extremely strong urging of my MD. In the second visit he repeated back harsher versions of what I said in a mocking tone. I don't believe if there was a witness he would talk to anyone that way. He talked down to me in both visits and if I would answer a question in a way that he didn't like he would interrupt me mid-sentence. Both visits he didn't answer my questions he would redirect, change the topic or flat out mock me. I don't feel it is unrealistic to expect your neurologist to understand the difficulties of neurological conditions and communicate professionally. When asking about the effect of medications on unborn babies he made comments that presumably I would be doing this with a man and when I brought it up a second time he asked if I had found anyone.
Male or female if you have any sort of mental deterioration take an advocate with you, someone who can advocate for you and keep him in check during what are often stressful topics to deal with. Young single women, perhaps a member of staff could accompany you into the visit, he does seem more helpful around his staff. Other advice if for some reason it helps you to have a doctor that will not regard your input and allow you to be part of deciding your care by all means try him but if you want to be part of your care, treated with respect --especially if you are a woman reconsider seeing this doctor.
