Dr. Loria is knowledgeable and has been on point on his diagnosis of my child's allergy and asthma issues so far. I've taken my child to other allergists and they have offered nothing different from my pediatrician. Problem with Dr. Loria is that he's always booked solid almost a month or two ahead and more often than not, we end up seeing his partner Dr. Blair. She's a very sweet lady. Willing to listen and shows great concern, but her treatments and diagnosis are "textbook." Nothing wrong with that but when there are random side effects or complications in my child's allergies, we keep repeating same steps. There are always new findings and information which may help in customizing a better treatment plan for different individuals and that's where Dr. Loria. steps in.

Though the doctor(s) should be the main focus of this review, in a medical practice I strongly believe the support, nurses, and administrative staff play a major role in patient interaction. They prep, test, and administer most of the treatments. When you are ill, nervous, or scared, they are your primary contact there and most likely you'll see more of them than your doctor. So, the front desk and billing staff are nice. The nurses are no nonsense and do their part. My major gripe is with the allergy shot nurse. A big part of an allergy practice. She's a much older lady with pixie short hair. I totally understand that she has to "process" people's shots quickly. Adults in the waiting room complain about her painful administering of shots. Whenever I ask a question or comment on a concern about my child's shots, she's very terse, sighs loudly, as if to say,"so what do you want me to do about it." Keep in mind one has to stay 30 min. after the shot and let HER know if you do have a reaction. Really?? Has the caring level hit rock bottom? The one thing she does all day and looks like she's been doing for some time and can't answer in a professional manner? Whenever kids go up for their shots, sometimes they cry or you can see how anxious they are, adults alike. She just stands there and doesn't even try to explain the process or just be nice. Not once have I heard a kind work from her. Unfortunately, she seems like the only allergy shot nurse on staff in the Sterling, VA office that we've seen. My child who's had all sorts of injections due to his condition and been through extensive acupuncture treatments has never complained before but has developed high anxiety towards the treatment shots. I hope they can get someone else who can show more concern and be gentler with the shots.

I have moved since I first saw Dr. Loria, but still drive from another State to see him 2 or 3 times a year, because he's that good. He and his staff are foremost, incredible and compassionate people. He himself is extremely smart and well trained as a physician and has probably saved my life a couple of times because he thinks outside the box. The first time I saw the man, he spent a good 45 minutes with me, even apologized(?!) for taking my time as he asked me a number of questions - I'd come in with some peculiar symptoms. He then told me he couldn't treat me til I had Lymes and low thyroid taken care of; turned out he was right, but he also provided great referrals so that I was well taken care of. His staff is outstanding in terms of ensuring I get answers if questions come up between appointments, and even called to check on me when I had some acute breathing problems. I really can't say enough about these folks. He is a good man, and his staff, they are good people too.
