Having been in practice for 40 years seeing children, adolescents and adults, I have a wide grasp of the psychotherapeutic techniques used throughtout the years, including cognitive behavioral therapy, transactional analysis and psychodynamics psychotherapy. Over the past 2 years, I have used various medications, including Suboxone, to help with opiod (e.g. Vicodin) addiction, and other medications useful with other addictions including alcholism. I am not in any insurance plans, but I do tell people: in this part of the county, most psychiatrists only do medication management, whereas I do mostly counseling.
My style is to do a lot of talking as well as plenty of listening. Although I utilize medication where indicated, I see pharmaceuticals as the "spice" in the "meal" and not the "whole meal."
However, I collaborate with those counselors that want me to help them with the diagnosis and management and if required, medication; I always see to it that their client is returned, unless it is mutually agreed for me to become the primary therapist.
