With more than five years experience as a clinical massage therapist and ten plus years in the holistic industry, Louis Shapiro is now seeking continuing education as a medical massage therapist. He is presently working on prerequisites for a Physical Therapy Doctorate program with enrollment scheduled for the fall of 2008. The Physical Therapy Doctorate program will be completed by 2010.
Private Practice - 2002- Present
Louis works as a clinical massage therapist and wellness counselor to help clients with acute non medical chronic conditions such as: pain management, headaches and stress. More than (+200) clients with health challenges, including arthritis, weight management, candida, high blood pressure, energy, anxiety, depression, food allergies and hormones have benefited from Louis’ professional services. Some of the techniques used include: documentation history and intake on each client (SOAP notes); massage therapy (chair massage, energy balancing, kinesiology, parasympathetic massage, shiatsu, sports massage, structural integration techniques, cranial sacral); and clients exercises, including PNF stretching, Tai Chi, Swiss Ball and yoga.
Client work involves strong communication skills to listen to both verbal and non verbal communications in addressing clients’ needs within the ethical boundaries of Louis’ practice.
Holistic Health Experience: 1994-Present
Prior to working at Zen12 and as a massage therapist, Louis founded Active Nutrients in 1994. This company originally started off as a dietary mail order supplement company, one of the earliests companies on the Internet selling nutritional supplements including: vitamins, herbs, and minerals. Now the company’s products are sold to complemetary health care professionals (acupunturists, nutritionallists, medical doctors, chiropractors and herbalists). Before launching a product, Louis and a team under his direction, spent thousands of hours studying clinical research on the uses of herbal supplements in journals such as JAMA, New England Journal of Medicine and reviewing abstracts from Medline. Past herbal products in this area have included: Saw Palmetto, Milk Thistle, Echinacea, Golden Seal, Kava, Valerian, St. John Wort. Read more about <url removed>.

Writeups and or articles have appeared in the Vitamin Retailer, Nihon (Japanese Newspaper), Wall Street Journal, and Whole Foods Magazine. Louis has also published two newsletters, the International Health Gazette profiling accredited research on nutritional supplements at Active Nutrients and most recently a newsletter at Zen12, profiling research studies on massage therapy and nutrition.
