John Deri, MD is a Columbia University graduate, where he completed his medical studies. Dr. Deri’s extensive training in both psychodynamic psychology as well as in biological psychiatry allows him to provide a comprehensive assessment of human suffering. He has been a board certified psychiatrist since 1989.
Dr. Deri has a solo practice in Mill Valley and has been in private practice since 1987. He completed his psychiatric residency training at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). He did his undergraduate work in psychology and anthropology at Columbia College. He received an M.A. in psychology from the New School for Social Research.
His work experience has included many years on Active Staff at California Pacific Medical Center, Saint Francis Memorial Hospital and Ross Hospital (adult psychiatry and chemical dependency services). He spent many years teaching and providing supervision as a member of the Clinical Faculty at UCSF. He has pursued psychoanalytic training at the William Alanson White Institute, and at the Psychoanalytic Institute of Northern California.
He maintains several professional memberships, including the American Society of Addiction Medicine, the American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry, the International Society for Sport Psychiatry and the Northern California Society for Psychoanalytic Psychology.

Interests: Dr. Deri has additional special interests in the treatment of addictions, and in sport psychiatry. Beyond his life as a psychiatrist, he is an active triathlete.
