They didn't seem too happy to be helping me. Maybe they were just having a bad day, but they could have been nicer. They weren't horribly inexperienced, but I was hoping for someone with more experience. I wasn't sure they'd be able to help me. This optometrist proved to be very unhelpful when asked about my issues. he couldn't answer any of my questions. Horrible experience was told he could not help and actually told me to suck it up!

Their standard of patient comfortability is obviously very high and it showed throughout the entire appointment. I was impressed from the first moment I entered for my appointment and sat in their very comfortable waiting room chairs.

They make an extra effort to get to know their patients and find out what they need. They always remember me and make me feel very important. They made the extra effort to make sure every question and concern I had was addressed. They've stayed open past their closing times many times when I've needed help. They've never turned me away when I've needed them.

I've been a patient of Dr. Ferrara for the past 5 years. He's provided prescriptions for both contact lenses and glasses and he's been great. During this period, I had two incidents arise that he went out of his way to help resolve. The first involved my very first visit to him which resulted in a problem with my insurance company. The problem was with my insurance coverage and not with the good doctor. It was somewhat embarrassing because I work for a large national company with a prominent office in Norfolk with a good vision plan but the insurance company was clearly delaying payment. Dr. Ferrara was more patient than I would have been and later laughed about the incident. The other problem was with a medical condition I had with my vision known as a PVD. I called him and I was able to see him within 15 minutes. The problem is basically an age-related condition. He diagnosed it immediately and provided excellent care. Dr. Ferrara is is extremely congenial but most importantly he is very competent. One more thing. He knows the contact lens product lines out there and helps you decide what you want - no pressure to do business with Pearl Vision who he seems to be associated with. In fact, I take my prescriptions and get my contacts at BJs or SAMS. They seem to be better than the on-line services. Bottom line - I'd recommend Dr. Ferrara to anyone!

I don't even know where to start with this place.

While we checked in he was very pleasant and quite on time. I am only assuming it was because we were the only clients in quite some time. The receptionist casually strolled in and walked away leaving him to get us checked in.

At this point everything went south. Before the exam took place he was told that my daughter has asperger's and epilepsy so she can be a touch nervous. She was fine until it came time to give her eyedrops and she became clearly nervous and wouldn't hold still and instead of letting me try to calm her down he proceeds to my daughter and I that she was "clearly special and had issues" and he would refer us out to someone who has experince dealing with "Children with problems" at which point my daughter began to cry. Out of shame she finally cooperated and magically the entire exam took around 3 minutes.

My daughter has worn glasses since she was 6 months old and has had 2 surgeries for correction of a lazy eye. I do not feel that his findings are at all accurate and will be calling the insurance company to have them sort out this mess.

So in short the man managed to not only insult me but truly upset and hurt the feelings of a 9 year old child about her disabilities.

This optometrist does not provide complete prescriptions for eyeglasses. The required "PD" measurement is omitted unless you buy your glasses from his business partner.
