I was referred to Dr. Amarante by another physician for a skin condition that was extremely frustrating to deal with, and had been as-yet undiagnosed and untreated. When I arrived, I waited for over an hour. Her Physician's Assistant looked at me first and only called the doctor when she herself couldn't make a diagnosis. Dr. Amarante walked in and immediately said "It's just chronic itch." She barely glanced at my skin, then refused to answer my questions about what chronic itch is and what she was prescribing. She ignored my other questions and concerns, and after a minute or so walked out the door while I was still trying to talk to her. Her assistant was better, but I had to keep asking what the prescription was for, how to use it, how long for, and what sort of results to expect. When I picked it up at the pharmacy, the pharmacist told me she'd never seen it used that way before and I had better be very careful- in fact, wash it off after 20-30 minutes each time (it was a cream). Dr. Amarante's office hadn't given me any such warning. I trust the pharmacist completely. I felt like I was brushed off at her office. Trying to get them to explain my condition and the treatment was like pulling teeth, and I saw no compassion whatsoever from the doctor. All the posters around there highlight acne treatments and cosmetic procedures. Maybe that's her specialty, but if you think you have a medical condition that could have serious consequences which aren't cosmetic, find another doctor.
