Previous reviews state that Briar Creek is a beautiful, state of the art facility. This is absolutely true. This is one of the reasons we chose this facility for my family member. The facility is beautiful, the rooms are spacious and modern. The physical therapist was very helpful and I would say he did well with helping my sister’s rehab. The Nutritionist was very helpful. He helped my sister with eating, pureed her food when she was having trouble getting the food down and even heated the food up for her when the food was delivered cold. The main reason for the negative review is the staffing issues and I hope that this review is read and discussed with EVERY nurse at this facility for coaching and development. The facility appeared to be short staffed, requests from my sister took hours to be addressed and a handful of nurses don’t need to be working in the field AT ALL! The first night my sister was there, after the nurses got her in bed, one nurse said to my sister, “make sure you don’t fall out of bed.” Very disturbing and I don’t understand why this was a “joke.” My sister could not walk so she needed assistance to the bathroom. On several occasions, a couple of nurses complained to my sister (after showing up hours after the call), “you didn’t need to use the bathroom. I hate when patients lie and say that they have to go!” Also, “I hate using this machine. I have to get another nurse to help me to get you to the bathroom.” A patient that is not well and is suffering from their illness does not need to hear this kind of verbiage. It only lessens their motivation, their drive and will to live. My sister started to feel like she was a burden. Your job responsibility is to HELP and ASSIST every and any patient, regardless of how much work it is, and you are not supposed to talk down to any patient! If you have a problem completing these tasks of the job, find another career! My nephew discussed these issues with the Nurse Manager along with other issues that needed to be addresses like medication approval, bars to help my sister to pull herself up into the bed and a follow up appointment from the Doctor that performed my sister’s surgery. The nurse Manager was very polite but things took a while to get addressed. My sister fell out of bed (probably trying to get HERSELF to the bathroom) and had several heart attacks as a result of the trauma and passed away shortly thereafter. Again, there were several good nurses at this facility and the facility is beautiful, but the handful of nasty employees that broke my sisters will to live is why I wrote this review. I hope that Briar Creek takes this review seriously and makes the necessary staffing changes.
