About

Lori Day

Dr. Lori Day always knew she wanted a career in medicine. “I grew up on a farm, so science and nature were my early teachers,” she explains. “in the end, it really just came down to the decision between animal and human medicine.” Today, she is the only physician in her family, although her sister is an occupational therapist in the area.

She chose Maternal Fetal Medicine because she finds obstetrics fascinating. “There are so many things that have to align correctly in order for mom and baby to be healthy,” says Lori. “Perinatology enables me to care for pregnancies with additional risk factors – either for the mom or baby.”

Dr. Day chose Beacon after training in Iowa and practicing in Michigan for 10 years. “It was easy to see that the Midwest is for me. I grew up in Southwestern Michigan, so I returned home to provide services to the region that gave so much to me.”

What is Dr. Day’s philosophy for how she practices? “Our medical knowledge is extensive, but what is most important is determining how to apply these principles and guidelines to the individual patient,” she says. “Medicine is not cookie-cutter and we really have to listen to our patients in order to optimize their health.” During her years of practice, her patients have taught her about the resilience of the human spirit and the true privilege of caring for families during difficult times.

In her own words…

Who is or was the most influential person/role model in your life? My parents. They definitely instilled in me my work ethic – if a job is worth doing, it’s worth doing well.

What was your first job growing up? What do you remember most about it? Even as the youngest child, there was always work for me to do on the farm. I also enjoyed the customer service aspect of my first paid job at a movie rental store.

If you could sit down to dinner with anyone, alive or deceased, who would it be and why? I would easily choose to dine with my dad, who died in 2012, along with my kids so he could see the amazing people they have become.

In addition to medicine, what are you passionate about? What are your hobbies, interests? I spend most of my free time with my husband, son and daughter. We enjoy the lake in the summer – boating, kayaking, fishing, paddle boarding. I also enjoy baking and reading.

What is something most people don’t know about you? I’m secretly a big Harry Potter fan – go Ravenclaw!
