What a Special Place!

There are times when we must press pause to acknowledge the hard work and dedication on a team of highly qualified professionals who have gone above and beyond the call of duty and this is one of those times. The Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation Center/Gastonia’s staff can best be described as ‘Angels’ who provide high-quality medical treatment, kind, and caring services on a daily basis.

I can’t thank them enough for the way in which they cared for my mother this past month. I would remiss not to personally thank Roger Clemons, Director of Social Work, Tanika, Social Worker, Carla, Nurse and Duresha, CNA on the 500 Hall, Brook, Admissions all of my mother’s physical and occupational therapists - there were to many of you to mention each of your names. Everyone on the 500 and 200 halls took excellent care of my mother and I may not have had the opportunity to get to know all of their names individually but they were all caring, and always exhibited such a high standard of care, delivered with such warmth. My mom is always singing their praises when she speaks with me each day.

Thank you for all your loving care you gave to my mother and for the wonderful work that you do.

This is a suggestion rather than a review. A family member and friend is a patient at the Brian Center. Because our location is in Connecticut we call to speak to a nurse once a week. Recently nurses seem reluctant to speak with us by telephone (reluctant to provide information). This is our only contact. It is impossible for us to visit NC at this time. Could an e-mail be sent once a week stating his condition? Please reply. Thank you.

My close friend went to the Brian Center in Gastonia from the hospital. She went there for rehab and to get stronger, when she left the faculty she was in worse shape than what she was when she went in. They were suppose to work with here and they don't do any of that. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.

Review For: BRIAN CENTER of GASTONIA, NC

If I could possibly give this place a negative zero I certainly would. This facility is filthy; the staff is rude and seems to be unqualified. Not speaking about all the nurses here. The day shift is somewhat decent but about 90% of the second shift shows no sympathy towards these unfortunate & helpless people. I myself and others have personally witiness the staff neglecting their patients. Due to unfortunate circumstances my mother in law had to be placed here, as it was the only available space. My mother in law has been their almost a year and has actually seen the doctor on staff only twice! They changed her diaper and left her naked with the door to her room wide open, as people passed by they could see her. As expected it made her husband furious. The catheters are supposed to be changed weekly but Brian Center only changes it monthly causing many of the patients to get severe bladder infections. One lady was eating her own feces’ and even after having the situation being brought to a nurses attention her response was very untimely. Weeks later, the same elderly woman left sitting in a wheelchair in the hallway (uncovered) naked with just a diaper. The nurse that was working this specific floor passed by her numerous times and didn't bother covering her up. There are occasions when some patients aren't even being fed properly. My father in law is there day and night to make sure she is being taken care of properly. But now, he is no longer allowed to spend the night (though other patients’' family members are) because he tells the patients' family about how the staff treats their family members/loved ones. In conclusion, if you are seeking a nursing home or rehab facility to place a loved one and another facility is available for long term stay PLEASE choose them first! Brian Center is unfit for anyone (unless you have some type of insurance other than Medicaid/Medicare) much less some ones' loved one. I would turn them in to authorities if I had solid evidence, but I don't. Therefore, I'm posting this where ever I can to educate others of this horrible place. I was given a brief greeting when I walked through the door, but no one made any sort of effort to help me. I felt ignored. Most of the time, they don't call me back for quite a while, but they've called me back quickly once or twice. I was treated terribly. I'm absolutely positive that I would have gotten better service anywhere else. I definitely don't trust their advice. They're only concerned about themselves. They weren't careful at all, and I was in a lot of pain after my appointment.

Don' t send anyone you love to this place they send there reject nurses there and it was the very nasty there they leave the peoples dirty underwear in the floor and they don't pay attention to the patients They probably could have used some continuing education courses to get up-to-date on more current methods. It was not easy to reach them in an emergency. I had to call several times before I finally reached them. They have no phones in the patients rooms they have to share one phone for all the patients they use one cordless phone that the batteries was dead so how can they call there family to let them know that they are ok.
