I could not ask for a more caring and compassionate group. My baby was well taken care of with the utmost respect. Unfortunately she had to be put down, but the vet assured me I was doing the best thing for her. She had had 5 seizures within hours of each other and you could see in her eyes she was not there anymore. The vet and tech were so caring to both me and my Missi. I cannot thank you enough for making this HORRIBLE time as comforting as you did. I would HIGHLY recommend this vet.

Dogs and Cats Vet Referral Hospital is a nice facility with a wonderful and caring staff. I felt that my dog received excellent care. The doctor sat with us and explained all of our options based on lab results, exams, history and the dog in general. I felt comfortable and confident in the decision we made and the care that he received. My only complaint is that it is about a half hour away from where I live.

My 5 month old Great Dane had leg surgery to repair hyperextended joints in his paw (arthrodesis). His surgery went fine and at the time of his bandage removal his joints were fusing well. About a month later they found his pins were coming out & redid the surgery to add washers to his hardware. The addition of the washers were not an option presented in the first surgery; his rate of growth for his breed should have dictated them. He developed several infections during his recovery, one was MRSI. This diagnosis came with a scary list of do's and don'ts to prevent anyone getting sick. The next visit I was told we should consider amputation, I said no and he was put on several antibiotics. A week later his wound looked worse & when I spoke to the vet about his future & his possibility for being healed, I was told his bones and hardware were likely infected and it didn't look good. As excruciatingly painful as his infections were described to me, I made the decision to euthanize, with no objection from the vet. I was very upset & thought I was doing the best thing. Word spread through their hospital & a rescue was found (they were called 2 weeks prior for help or support (nonfinancial) & the rescue did not call back). I was worried about what he'd still have to go thru but agreed to it. We love him a lot & if there was any chance he'd get better he deserved it immensely. Once I decided to give him to the rescue the tone changed, the room was full of heroes and being a hero was more important than someone rationally talking to me (Me and my daughters were extremely upset) and giving our family the support and encouragement we clearly needed. After much crying and deep regret, I contacted the vet 2 days later to ask for him back. Rescues don't give back & his heartbreaking graphic photos of his injury on the rescue site are generating donations. I learned several lessons: interview your vet as you would when selecting a pediatrician for your children, be sure your vet has experience with your breed, don't leave what they do in the back a mystery - look at your pets wounds for real progress & to a hard core animal person or anyone working with animals you are nothing & a nobody - these heroes save dogs, not dog families. (The reception service at this hospital is outstanding.)
