I love Royal Oak. From the first meeting with there admissions person, Jessica. She was so friendly and full of information. When we did our tour of the facility she said hello to everyone and the residents seemed to interact well with her. My sister and I thought that was a great sign that the staff there really cared for the residents. Royal Oak has a home like feeling from the second you walk in. The facility is small but the personable feeling is there and I feel that is the most important part. My mom was only there for a few weeks for rehab but I can honestly say they give wonderful care. No place Is going to be perfect, and sometimes I think the staff could have done better, but I am sure they are under tremendous stress. I will always remember Royal Oak for the great job they did with my mom.

It is going to be a year soon that my Mother passed away while in your care. I only wish that we would have NEVER chose to put her there.
If you are reading this STOP and look somewhere else. Don't put your loved one at Royal Oaks. Even after all this time I still HATE this place they took my mother from me.

My sister was there for a month. Most Nurses were nice. But the Aides are the laziest people I have ever seen hiding out in Director of Nursing after meals, some of the aides were cruel to patients. Leaving them sit for hours crying they need to use restroom and those were the ones in wheel chairs that could get around.Just imagine the ones who are bedridden. Different staff even talk about how lazy other are and refuse to earn there pay. Amazing what you can learn just listening. Shame I don't have a smart phone because I would have recorded what I saw as I was pushing patient to lunch when there were short staffed. There is a overwhelming smell of URINE through out the home. Asked several time for laundry to be done at no success and had every excuse other that they were just to lazy to take it down. The director has to be afraid of his aides will see them sitting around in a group and never says anything to them. There not on break either. Therapy people were great. You actual see other patients taking care of each other. They are lined up in the halls between meals. Very little interaction with patients. I have seen Vets treat animals better than What Takes Place There. Wish the news media would wire me with a hidden camera so you could see for you self. And Don Webster is phone recording....shame on him. Or is he investor????? If they don't like working with people in these conditions they should find other work. Meds. are always late. Breathing treatment given 1 time in 30 days, lost meds was reason given. nor contacted her doctor. Its not that they are under staffed it is PURE LAZINESS on aides part not all but I would say 70 percent there. None English speaking patients have it the worst...no one understands them so just leave them sit alarms on wheel chair so they know when they get up or out of bed. GO SOME WHERE ELSE!!!!!!!No nursing homes are perfect but this is the worst I have seen yet......Wish I would have known this before she went there. No one there is on the same page.

This nursing home abused and neglected my Mother. She passed away there, after going in for physical therapy. Please do not put your relatives there.

I have a comment about this nursing home (Royal Oak), I can't go into details at this time (and it's very gruesome) .. But I will say do NOT put your loved one in the care of this home..... Do extensive research and save yourself the heartache of losing a loved one.... And do not put them in Aristocrat Berea Skilled Nursing ... 255 Front St Berea , Ohio 44017..

I have written a review recently that my mother was at Royal Oaks and passed away there. May 19, 2014 was the saddest day of my life. My mother was only 86 years old and according to her recent doctors appointments she was in good health. So I still wonder Why did she die?? I have 2 sisters and my one sister was there every day and we have never ever heard anything from them except they had the nerve to call her and ask her for MONEY. what the heck how COLD is that....
Why can't anyone from Royal oaks tell us the truth and why she died and why they told my sister when she asked about taking her to the hospital they said NO! the next morning she was gone. It seems like there attitude was she was old so why bother with her. So today instead of going to Royal oaks to visit my mom we had to go through her belonging and divide them between us all. I wish we had some closure and we hope that my mother, my best friend didn't die under
wrong circumstances. I still wish they would have let us take her to the hospital maybe she would still be there. The only good thing that came out of this is that Cross Roads Hospice is the best. Royal Oaks
should rethink there staff and have Cross Roads train them how to deal with families. By the way the week my mother died 2 other patients passed away. How sad....

I was at this facility everyday since December. My Mom was a resident. Temporary. I agree with all the reviews. Residents were lined up against the wall because the aides did not want to be bothered with room lights going on. They had nothing to do as activities were concerned. No activities on Sunday. I felt so sorry for them. Therapy was worthless, not long enough. When my Mom was diagnosed with a Kennedy Wound, the social worker told me to get hospice. Nobody was there to prove it. The wound doctor didn't even see it. My Mom was changed after 4 or 5 hours sitting in a wheelchair. She had UTI infections constantly. She was supposed to be changed every 2 hrs. She was supposed to be turned due to the bed sore every 2 hours, there were aides that didn't. They told us to force her to eat. They left her food on the tray, she was not able to eat by herself. I feel bad because she wanted to come home, she passed away alone without me. The death certificate was wrong. Half the time her food was cold. My sister's asked questions but never got any information. There is something very suspicious going on before she passed. I lost my best friend. I lived with her for 10 years. Now I have to move. Amongst other things. I witnessed a lot that went on and I felt sorry for some of the residents, the way they are treated and talked too. I thought I picked the right rehab center you never know. I guess I was wrong about this one.

My mother was in Royal Oaks and passed away there recently. At first the place seemed good for a nursing home but when the Debbie the social worker told us my mom had a kennedy wound and suggest we contact Hospice, we could not believe that a nurse or doctor did not tell us. My sister went to see my mom everyday from 9-1 faithfully and had many issues with the place. one for example the aide took my mom to the bathroom and forgot about her when my sister questioned it she was "oh my god she is in the bathroom" 1/2 hour she was in there just sitting. Then she had numerous bruises under her rib-cage and NO ONE could tell us what happened. When we got the death certificate recently my sister questioned the cause of death and called the doctor who supposedly sign it (no doctor was there when we were)
The nurse apparently told him the cause and when my sister talked with the doctor he said it was because she was 86 years old and her heart stopped. omg!! when she asked about the wound he said "Oh it was a bed sore" They said she needed to be changed often and she wasn't. If my mother would have been treated correctly and changed more maybe I would still have my mom. I lost my best friend and i now wish we would have put her somewhere else. If you love your loved one don't put them in Royal oaks.
