My mother has been a resident of Filosa for a little over 3 years now. We were a little hesitant at the idea of having mom in a nursing home, but the staff at Filosa were so reassuring. I felt at ease knowing she had such amazing staff taking care of her within time I looked at many members of the staff as family, they did an amazing job with mom and simply always went above and beyond to met her needs. It saddens me that most of those people are no longer working there and have been replaced with the most snobbish, unfriendly and insensitive staff I have ever seen in my life!! The other day I went to visit mom and witnessed one of the aides refusing to take her to the bathroom. The aide told my mother she had a brief on and can "pee in her brief" I was horrified and when I entered I asked why she could not just take her real quick since she was already in the room with her, and she said because we are all busy. Then she walked out of the room before I could utter another word.I wanted to tell the supervisor about this incident but I am scared the aides may find out and take it out on my mother. The new nurses and administration are no different they think they know every thing and insist my mother is not drowsy due to the new medication they are giving her, she barely wakes up to eat. When I wanted to get her taken off they made a big deal about it because she has episodes and is abusive to the staff. My mother has NEVER been an abusive woman.I think that the staff is not addressing her properly when providing care and giving meds which causes her to be this way. Their are a few girls that my mother adores and has had no problem with, but others have trouble caring for her. I felt like saying maybe its not my mom who needs to be medicated but your staff but I held my tongue. This used to be such an amazing place with the BEST staff from the administration to the nurses and aides, but they numbers are slowly dwindling. I even asked one of the girls where some of my moms favorite aides were and she shock her head and said"this place is not what it used to be" and she is certainly right! I would take my mom out of there but she has severe dementia. It was hard enough to bring her there, I don't want her to become even more disoriented by bringing her somewhere new, but please shop around before you settle on Filosa for your family member, you may save yourself a headache in the end.
