Services Chiropractic is a form of alternative health care that focuses on the nervous system and its relationship to an individuals spinal column. Your spine has 24 movable segments called vertebrae. Between each segment is a disc that acts as a shock absorber. You also have nerve roots that exit out of your spinal column between each segment. These nerves send messages to every part of your body from your head to your toes inside and out.
Throughout the course of your daily activities your body has repetitive stresses that are placed upon your muscles, nerves, and joints. Due to this fact, your body will let you know if something is not functioning properly. For example, most individuals carry their stress on top of the shoulders. This tension can contribute to poor posture and leave you feeling achy and sore. Neck pain and headaches can further complicate the health of your nervous system.
When a segment is restricted, pressure is placed on the nerve that does not allow a complete message to be sent out to different parts of your body. For example, if your low back and hips are restricted, you may feel tingling down your leg. Your spine should have three normal curves to support your body weight and your activity load. However, due to past injuries or accidents, your spinal column will adapt, compensating for what you do to your body. Your muscles will tighten up in the process trying to prevent further injury to your body.
My job as a chiropractor is to find and free up the restrictions of your joints, which will allow the message to be sent out through the nerves of your body. Pain is the last symptom you usually feel and is the first symptom to go away when a chiropractor begins to correct the problem.

Massage Therapists are generally trained in several different modalities of massage. Here at Bergkamp Chiropractic and Massage we offer several different types such as Pre-Natal, Deep Tissue, Swedish, Reflexology, and Sports Massage just to name a few. Below are some definitions of some of the more common types of massage.
• Deep Tissue Massage is used to release chronic muscle tension through slower strokes and more direct pressure or friction across the grain of the muscles. This invigorating experience is a process of detection of stiff or painful areas by determining the quality of the deeper layers of musculature, and slowly working into the deep layers of muscle tissue.
• Sports Massage is used primarily for the athlete who trains continuously. It focuses on the muscle relevant to the particular athletic activity. It also includes pre-event, post-event and maintenance techniques that promote greater athletic endurance and performance and lessen chances of injury & reduce recovery time.
• Swedish Massage refers to a collection of techniques designed primarily to relax muscles by applying pressure to them against deeper muscles and bones,
and rubbing the same direction as the flow of blood returning to the heart. Swedish massage can help relax muscles, increase circulation, remove metabolic waste, and create better awareness of the recipients body and the way they use and position it.
• Trigger Point Therapy is a pain relief technique to alleviate muscle spasms and cramping. The therapist locates trigger points which are often tender areas
where muscles have been damaged or acquire a re-accruing spasm or “kink”. The major goals are to reduce spasm including new blood flow into the
affected area. Pressure is applied to the trigger point for a short time (about 10 seconds), which can be momentarily painful but is greatly relieving.
• Manual Lymphatic Drainage blends soothing, gentle, rhythmical, precise massage-like movements to accelerate the flow of lymphatic fluid in the body.
