We sent our mom to Alexian Bros. Sherbrooke, The Lodge after she broke her hip. After not making enough progress to qualify for continued care, we moved her to the long term care building, the village. After visiting her there the first day, we decided this was not the place for her and are working furiously to move her to better care. The facility smells. Not one staff person smiled when greeted and barely responded verbally to "hello." One of the public use restrooms had feces all over the toilet and on the floor. One staff was speaking disrespectfully to a resident until she saw me come around the corner, then immediately changed her tone and words. A male resident fell face first on the floor in the hallway, we reported it to staff. There was absolutely no sense of urgency to help him. One staff walked right by him without even offering assistance. This was all in the first day. The second day, my mom fell again. Response time to call button is around 1/2 hour, unless a family member is present. Then the response time is a bit quicker. A cock roach crawled across the floor in my mom's room. Again, staff not friendly, don't smile. My mom was near tears and so was I. Third day, my mom is angry and cursing. Totally unlike her. She is a sweet Christian woman who has always had a positive outlook on life, until the day she came to this facility. She is angry because she sees the staff chatting and laughing while call buttons ring, unaddressed, meaning someone in the facility needs something. I am truly aghast at the absolute absence of any quality of care here. We will have her out of there as soon as we can. I am trying to get an appointment with the administrator and am considering making a report to the Department of Health and Senior Services.
