Connie counseled me & my wife several years ago. Now that we are divorcing, she decided to breach patient confidentiality to write a declaration to the court about my PRIVATE sessions with her, on my wife's behalf, for her custody requests. I am a veteran with PTSD, and I talked about my struggles with my therapist. Be careful with Connie - if you tell her things in confidence in hopes of getting help, she may use it against you later like she did to me! This makes me wonder if veterans with children should ever talk about their issues with mental health professionals...at the time, it really helped me deal with my problems to talk about them, but if I had known it would be used against me in a custody dispute 4 years later, I would have just tried to deal with them without the help of a therapist. I have a copy of her declaration, which I will be using to file a complaint with the licensing board. I understand therapists may disclose counseling records w/o the patient's consent if there is an imminent threat to others, but our sessions were years ago and she didn't feel it was necessary to disclose anything until my wife asked her to review my counseling records and provide a statement in support of her custody petition. She didn't even describe anything that was extremely concerning about my mental health in her declaration except to describe my struggles as I explained them to her. I'm beyond feeling betrayed by someone I trusted to help me with mental health issues and marriage counseling. Wow!
