Wish I could leave ZERO stars!!!!!!!!!!!AVOID Dr. Ann Cavender at Salem Veterinary Services. She is not fit to be in practice and she cannot be trusted to care for your pets. She’s been in practice for far too long to think that this is appropriate and I’m completely disgusted and heartbroken. I have been going to her practice for 25 plus years and this past weekend she abused my dog right in front of me and my mom.

Please please please share to help others avoid this treatment. From reading reviews there are at least four others who have experienced this abusive behavior.

I am completely sickened, saddened and disgusted by the lack of care and ethics of a medical professional that I came into contact with today.

My dogs are my children and to find the right care for them is extremely important. To learn that a veterinary business suddenly changes their ethics and feels that they can manhandle your 6 pound dog is abuse in my eyes.

My baby Coal, who is 15 weeks old, was at the vets today for his shots. I didn’t not ask for an ear cleaning but got one anyways. She proceeded to pluck his ear hair, he’s a mini poodle. Again, didn’t ask if it was okay, just did it. This is only the second time he’s had his ear hair pulled. No ear hair powder was used either. She got upset with him. She very aggressive pulled the the hair on the back of his head and neck and he instantly started squawking. It didn’t stop there. She then placed her hands around his neck! He continued to squawk and I swear she squeezed him around the neck. The assistant did nothing to stop the vet. I so badly wanted to reach over and remove her hands from my baby but didn’t want to be accused of harming the vet.

I am so floored with this and how my dog and I were treated. I will definitely be reporting this clinic and this vet. I’ve also learned that I am not the only one who has experienced something like this. My neighbor also experienced something similar with her daughter and her daughter’s dog.

I love Dr. Cavender. She is awesome with animals and very helpful. The office is not fancy, but who needs that. I would rather have excellent care for my pets, and she always delivers exceptional care.

I have been going here for years. Dr. is very blunt and forward which some may take off putting, but that's what I want. I don't need things sugar coated nor do I want it. They have always taken my dogs health serious and takes the time to explain things to me.

Incredibly rude and unprofessional staff. The building is small, cramped, and dirty, The vets are mediocre on their best day. The whole practice emanates a negative energy and you'd be well served to go elsewhere. The front staff are the rudest and most miserable group of humans I've ever had the displeasure to come across. Spent five years taking my cat here and am kicking myself that I was dumb enough to keep going back when there are better priced, better quality, and actually kind staff at other places.
I seriously cant stress enough how rude and inconsiderate the staff here is.

Called on Monday and spoke with the rudest, vilest human I've ever had the displeasure of speaking with. Made an "emergency" appointment for wednesday (today) I called this AM to ensure all his paperwork was received only to be to told it was for next week, and that if it was that much of an emergency I should have went to an emergency vet. I dont care how good the vet is, this kind of treatment is unacceptable and I'm furious now that my pet has since declined even more and now I have to find another vet as an actual emergency that I will be able to accompany him in with. So furious and disgusted. Oh and Zero stars.

Excellent care - the Dr. answers all questions and doesn't make you feel funny about taking extra time - in fact, they treat you like you're the only patient they have all day.

While the staff/Dr's may not always be the best with people, the care that has been given to my pet has been amazing. The Dr.s have decades of experience, the fees are reasonable and they were able to help my cat after being at the "Specialty" vets for over a week with very little improvement. I drive 45 minutes one way because of the care my pet receives.
