My experience at this dentist office was very dissapointing to say the least. I was reffered to this office by my 3 yr olds pediatrician , so i decided to give it a try, i took my daughter to two appointments prior to seeing this doctors true side. I took my daughter to a cleaning and a crown but due to my 3 yr olds bad teeth she had quiet a few things that needed to get done. The two prior appointments were great , the cleaning went nice and smooth mind you the nurse had done basically all the cleaning, and the crown i would say went good as well. In this occasion my daughter needed to get done 2 fillings , i was on time for the appointment and it took about 15-20 min for the nurse to call me in. The nurse prepped my daughter by for the procedure including this nose piece for the silly gas , everything was going smooth until the doctor came in after a little while of waiting for him. He came in joked a little and tried to make my daughter comfortable . The first part was to check the crown he had done before becausei had mentioned she had been complaining of it hurting , he basically said it needed to completely heal and to keep it clean by smoothly brushing it . Then the bad part , he started to place this clamp metal thing to keep the mouth open to my 3 yr old , she felt a little uncomfortable and started moving a little no big deal! Then he started with this pointy kind or drill machine , ( sounds intimidating even to me when its turned on ), especially bacause its going in your mouth. My 3 yr old fussed a little , started to cry and also kept moving somewhat, nothing a 3 yr old wouldnt do at the dentist , he seemed very impatient and flustered which made me a little weird about this whole thing , he kept telling her to realx and calm down, mind you she was NOT acting nowhere near hysterical (i have seen much worse!) i kept trying to calm my daughter by telling her she was a big girl and that she can do it .. So she tried to suck it in and he kept tring as well again she cried and he continued to tell her to listen and that he thought she was crying because i was there , that if she kept fussing he was gonna ask me to leave, which at that point i felt a little confused because i didnt see when he came up with the conclusion my daughter was crying because of me ! If anything it was obviously because it hurt or she was scared . Then he took off his gloves and face mask and said that he had another filling to do but he was gonna have me reshedule because she was being to fussy, which to me was an exxageration! Just when he was talking to me about that ,my 3 year old still in the chair sitting back i guess felt releaved to see the nurse cleaning her up meaning she was done , she went ahead and put her feet up in the air trying to see her feet as she still laid down, no where near the doctors face and he says " can you tell her not to do that?" And i said "do what?" He says "didnt you just see her about to hit me in the face with her foot?" I just looked at him with this blank look ( i was starting to get angry at this point) and didnt tell my 3 old anything so he seemed angered and annoyed by that .. Then he got up and asked the nurse to go get me a pamphlete for another dentist office so i can take my daughter there to get sedated to finish the procedure ! Basically saying he was done working with her . As the nurse left the room he told me he was not continuing the filling because my daughter does not listen and obviously doesnt like coming to the dentist ! I was just basically staring at him in disbelief he was actually being that unproffesional about this whole situation, he proceded to tell me my daughter was fussing to much to continue and that i was no help! I had no words ! I have never been do angered before with someone especially because this is involving my child! He basically belittled my child by acting like she was uncontrolable when in reality hes the one that cannot handle children period ! He does NOT have the patience to be a doctor to small children! First of all if what he wants is a child that loves the dentist and does not fuss at the sight of a drill going in the mouth then this is not the work enviorment for him ! He expects 3 yr olds to act like adults! Children are only being children! I will never ever take my daughter there again to him ! He also made my daughter feel bad about her self , as we were walking out i told my 3 yr old how good of a job she had done and she responds back "no i didnt!" She should have had nothing to be sad about ! Not only because she is my child but compared to other children i know ,she did GREAT! I can totally agree with this other anonymous review if you are looking for a patient and compassionate doctor DO NOT GO TO THIS DOCTOR! He is not capable of handling small children when it comes to procedures , he needs to only stick to cleanings!!

We just moved to the area and needed a new pediatric dentist for my daughter, who is almost 6, to get a cavity fixed. I chose Dr. Copes based on his location, and I was greeted kindly by his staff. The assistant was nice and friendly to my daughter, worked with her, and had no problem getting an xray, and Dr. Copes talked to me about what he felt was necessary (a crown). He explained why and seemed to have a calm, warm demeanor. My daughter was cooperative about getting the needle, but this is when it took a bad turn, because he did NOT ensure she was numb before drilling. She cried and flailed, because this tooth has been hurting her for weeks and I'm sure it is very sensitive. He warned her that if she was hurting, it would require another needle, and she told him "it hurts!" but he never provided more pain relief. I ran to the car to grab a stuffy to give her some support, and when I came back, there was blood pooled in her mouth and on the floor, and he was complaining that he "needed to go pick up his kids from daycare, this needs to get finished." I'm NOT there to worry about HIS problems. He threatened to pull the tooth if she didn't cooperate and told me it was MY fault for letting her believe it hurt. (I was saying things like "The worst is over, now you just need to let him finish. If you let him finish, it will be done very soon." Let me make this clear. I wanted very much to like Dr. Copes, but in the end, I was FURIOUS, and I do not anger that easily. Had I not been completely focused on my daughter's pain, I would have had some words with him, but she was more hysterical than I have seen her in YEARS. And she's FIVE. She did not cry like this at her previous dentist.

IF YOU WANT SOMEONE WHO WILL BE COMPASSIONATE WITH YOUR CHILD, PLEASE LOOK ELSEWHERE. He seems like he would be great for cleanings, but when it came to the dirty work, he failed. I was very disappointed because I would prefer she be worked on by someone who specializes in children, and I really liked the hygienist. I will look elsewhere. It was the kind of experience and insensitivity that make her hate the dentist.
