I recently fired this provider due to insensitive and inadequate care. There have been several issues leading up to this development. One involved an x-ray of our pet that was incomplete. Since this involved surgery outside this practice, it was costly and difficult on our pet. This type of x-ray is standard procedure. When we asked where the other x-ray was, we were told it's around here someplace. It was not since it was never taken.
Another medical issue was met with the same defensive communication style. We also were not told that this condition could infect our other animals. Our pet was also under-medicated causing continued discomfort.
We have since changed providers and are medicating effectively.
I take no pleasure in writing this. The office staff are caring and compassionate. One veterinarian there has also been quite good. However, based on the above listed issues, my trust in this practice has been destroyed.

Dr. Joy Lucas is an avian vet and there are not too many in my area. When my 12-year-old cockatiel became ill, I immediately thought of Dr. Lucas, who I knew of through the Bird Club I was in years ago. It is very easy to get an appointment and she even has Sat. hours. My NikkiBird had never been to a vet so I was very nervous. My baby was so sick that she was in severe pain. After xrays showed two growths in her little tummy, Dr. tried meds but she went down hill. This time when I brought her in I had to make a choice, put her down because she was suffering so or let Dr. Lucas operate to try and remove the growths, with no guarantee NikkiBird would even make it through surgery. Well to make a long story short, she did make it and I am enjoying my Nikkibird once again! And she is once again loving life!

Rude, judgmental staff with no sense of urgency. Overpriced, and less than adequate knowledge about rabbits, especially for a Vet who specializes in 'avian and exotic medicine'. Our experience at Upstate Medical Animal Hospital was more than just unpleasant – it was unbearable, unprofessional, and insincere. I would not recommend this practice to anyone, unless you’re prepared to ‘donate’ a beloved pet to science.
