They were so respectful and kind. They went above and beyond what I would expect and really made me feel welcome. I was glad that they were located in a safe neighborhood. I've been to some other places where I was scared to get out of my car but not here. They explained all the risks and benefits of my treatment options. Everything was explained in detail, all my questions were answered, and I felt a lot better about choosing a treatment plan. They have a very good professional reputation. I know that I'm under the care of an expert. They made sure every single question I had was answered, and are always available if I think of any more questions I want answered.

Maybe this is a good place to have a perfect birth... a lot of places are. I had a complication during my birth and it was not handled well. I was not treated with warmth and kindness that you would expect from a midwife (there were 3 at my birth) and it was a very cold environment. My baby started to lose his heart beat and the ambulance was not called. Instead I was told to push when I wasn't dilated. When the ambulance was FINALLY called and I couldn't push him out fast enough the EMT's were not told this was a life threatening emergency but just a labor transfer. I was then made to drive an additional 20mins to St Lukes Downtown (instead of St. Lukes Meridian or St Als). My child was born and dead when we reached the hospital. My midwife didn't speak a word to me in the ambulance while I was pushing. I look back at this and can't believe this happened. It's like a nightmare.

I believe in birth centers for perfect births. But you don't know if your birth is going to be perfect until it's in the hands of your midwife to make the correct call and not take the risks... the risks are too high. You HAVE to have a midwife that is not afraid to call 911 or take you to a hospital and is not afraid of hospitals. It's likely that if they called an ambulance and had me taken to St Lukes Meridian (5 mintues away) that my child would be alive today.

I've had 2 close friends with labor emergencies that were at Treasure Valley Midwives. They are less than 5 minutes away from St Lukes Downtown and they saved both of these babies by recognizing the emergency and acting quickly.

I'm not against home/birth center birth... but please be sure that your midwives have an emergency plan that will actually work... and are not afraid to do it. It just may save your childs life.
