Dr. Schueler is a young at heart, very personable, honest and knowledgeable Board Certified Neurosurgeon, and We feel so blessed to have his office so close to our home in Carroll County, MD. and also Charlie's doctor. He evaluated our basset hound "Charlie" after he was assaulted by another dog and immediately started having problems with walking, etc. Thankfully, we didn't have to rush into back/neck surgery and Dr. Schueler explained Charlie's diagnosis and how that could effect his older years. The office staff is very kind and helpful, and it touched my heart when they would call our home to check on Charlie's recovery. We wish Dr. Schueler could be our pets' regular Vet, but at least knowing he is there for Charlie in case of emergency is more than we could ask for. Thank you Dr. Schueler and staff ‼️

Dr. Schueler is a true Professional! There aren't enough words to adequately describe this individual and his skill set. First, this is a person who Values Education enough to continue learning on his own time. This effort greatly benefits his patients and their owners. I doubt that some people take that into account. If it's an Emergency, and your pet's life is in danger, you're fortunate to find a doctor who cares as deeply as Dr.Schueler plus staff.

My Standard Poodle was treated by a local veterinarian in Pennsylvania, for 2 years with an "inverted sneeze!???" When she began to have seizures, they "upped" the phenobarbital! No blood work, scan, or tests. Nothing! I found a Poodle researcher, Dr. Barbara Light, at FSU in Tallahassee, Fla. who spent a couple of hours with me via the phone. Together we found Dr. Schueler in Md.
His Rehabilitation Center was outstanding. The introduction to him was impressive. IF patients expect "Personality" rather than serious concern, perhaps you need to reevaluate your expectations. Most important, Dr. Schueler, asked about the dog and her personality.
He told us, " You live with her. Right now I only see her for a short visit. We took her out for a walk. She was dragging a leg.It confirmed his unofficial diagnosis.
We scheduled an MRI, and her surgery was done two days later. I remember him telling his assistant, "Schedule her the day after tomorrow, and that's to be the only surgery." I was given the GIFT of TWO EXTRA YEARS! When she was dying, I asked IF he would help her? The staff later shared that he was attentive throughout both nights. By Saturday, he had to let her go. The greatest gift was Friday morning when he took time to call and ask IF I'd like to visit with her that afternoon? Big Smile! Upon arriving, I was taken to an examing room where she was alert and waiting for me. Athena and I had part of the afternoon together. It was remarkable. I was most deeply touched when he brought her some chicken, and how she responded to the sound of his footsteps in the hallway. She knew his voice as well! Athena had to rely on instinct because she was now blind. Her Trust in him and her attachment helped prepare me for the inevitable.
The call came early Saturday morning with a genuine
Sadness. Athena was cremated and when her ashes were available, Dr. Schueler and the staff were stoic and compassionate.
This is a gifted individual whose greatest concern is the wellness of our animals. It was my good fortune to observe humility along with Excellent Care. I realize the cost was minimal considering the sincere time and effort that went into her care. Every community would benefit greatly from a doctor like him!

In closing, , Dr. Schueler diagnosed a Heart Murmur just recently, in two of the other poodles. The Cardiologist was impressed that Dr. Schueler had detected the irregularity so early! Both are fine for another year!
There are some who speak of "Schueler Miracles" and I'm a Believer!

How do you say. "Thank You" for this level of Skill and Insight? Every word of the review is honest and true!
This is written with Respect and Appreciation.

This surgeon is absolutely horrible. He is extremely expensive to start. We paid $8,500 for 3 ruptured discs, plus were charged $150 on two separate occasions post op to bring our dog back in because the doctor couldn't manage to get our dogs pain under control.

This man is uncompassionate with bad bedside manners. The two times we came back in with our dog, he completely disregarded our concerns. I even had videos to illustrate my concerns. Our dog was on prednisone after surgery, but wasn't initially prescribed it. After I did research and found that most dogs after IVDD injuries are on steroids, I suggested it so the surgeon said "okay." After about 10 days on the prednione, the surgeon completely took him off; my dog wasn't weaned off which our regular vet was upset about.

We had a consult with a physical therapit yesterday who I presented some of the concerns I presented to the surgeon, so she did a quick examination which she found that my dog has two different sized pupils (which indicates something neurological or a brain injury). Now, shouldn't the surgeon who is a neurologist have found that? Also, my dog lost his ability to bark after surgery and we are almost 4 weeks out and he still can't bark.

We have never felt so lost and brushed off from a medical professional. I urge you NOT to take your fur baby to this man. I don't want anyone else to experience what we have.

Dr. Schueler was very through and answered our questions. His staff is friendly and professional and made our pet feel at ease. We are very satisfied with his attention to our pet and will continue to use him in the future. The office is a bit far for us, but was easy enough to find and well worth the drive. I highly recommend Dr. Schueler and his staff.
