Do yourself a favor and find a different doctor. In my opinion, this Doctor represents everything that is wrong with the healthcare industry. Apparently they have this absurd policy where if you aren't 20 minutes early for your appointment, then you are late and he will not see you. But, it doesn't work the other way around.

I was referred to this doctor by a hematologist. I was there 30 minutes early for my appointment, but wasn't taken to a room until 15 minutes after my appointment started. Not sure why I was required to be there early. In any case, they were unprofessional from the start. The nurse that took my vitals was nice, but she kept speaking in slang and swearing and sharing way too much personal information. I honestly wondered if she was nervous or under the influence of something. It was odd. She asked me why I was there and informed me that they didn't have the referral, and didn't have any of my medical records despite the fact that I had set the appointment weeks earlier and the hematologist called them while I was standing right there to make sure they were in network with my insurance. Anyway, while waiting another 15-20 minutes for the doctor, I called the hematologist's office and asked them to send records which they did right then. I also took 10 minutes finding all of my lab reports that I had gotten the previous 6 months and sending them to them one by one. Did the doctor look at a single one before speaking with me? No. Not that I'm aware of. He didn't seem to have a clue why I was there. The appointment took about 10 minutes, and I felt like he had better things to do - like I was being rushed out the door. He ordered some additional labs and x rays and set a follow up appointment for 2 weeks. The appointment was for 11:30 on a Friday. There was a note to arrive at 11:10.

Fast forward two weeks. I have had my labs done and wanted to make sure they had them and reviewed them before my appointment so it wasn't another waste of time. I called at 10 am the morning of my appointment and spoke to a young man that works the front desk - David. I asked him to make sure they had everything and he asked me if I had my labs done. I told him when they were done and where and he said he didn't have them and asked me to run by on my way to my appointment to pick up a hard copy. I did so. I got to my 11:30 appointment at 11:20, and was told by David that the office policy is to be there 20 minutes before appointment time, so he would have to get approval from the doctor to still see me. At 11:26, he tells me the doctor is willing to still see me but it has to be at 1pm instead of 1130. So, because I was only 10 minutes early to my appointment, instead of 20, I would be required to wait an hour and a half to see him. I tried to reason with him, that the reason I was only 10 minutes early, instead of 20 minutes early, was because I had to pick up the report that HE HAD ASKED ME TO PICK UP. He smiled and said the doctor was aware but it was the office policy. I turned around and walked out. If this doctor had this little respect for me, my time, my family's time, and the expense we have taken on to get these labs done, take time off of work, etc, because I was 10 minutes early and not 20 minutes early, then is he going to have enough respect for my well being to take his time and do a good job with my health? I think the answer to that is clear. Doctors like this are only in business because there are enough sick people that they don’t have to care. It’s the only profession I know where you don't have to do your job and you still get paid. Move along. Find someone else. I wish I had.

I never post on websites but I just had to comment to say “Thank You” to Dr. Javier Berrios with Rheumatologist Specialist of Houston! I was stricken with Rheumatoid arthritis when I turn 30. I had no idea what was going on with my body. I can remember when I was first referred to Dr. Berrios, I could barely move. I could not bend down, my neck was stiff, my joints were swollen and most of all my spirit was destroyed. I just had a baby, who was 10 months, at the time the symptoms started to show. I was so depressed that I could not function properly as a mother and a wife. But, Dr. Berrios changed all of that for me! He is not like some doctors that get you in, and send you out with a prescription in hand, only for you to return because you still have ailments. He actually cares! He takes time out and ensures that you are diagnosed properly and educated about your condition because he wants you to be well. When I entered Dr. Berrios office 3 yrs ago, my rheumatoid factor was high; I was placed on three different medications to get the pain and arthritis under control. That is a lot of medication, for anyone to take every day for the rest of their life and I still wanted another child. Dr. Berrios took all of that into consideration. I was not just a patient number to him… I was person. I can honestly say that God placed Dr. Berrios in my life. I am officially off those pills, only on Humira and on my way to leading a normal, happy and active life. Thanks Dr. Berrios!!! P.s. The office is nice and relaxing. The staff, especially William, is great!!! I am recommending this doctor to everyone.

They answered most of my questions but I could have used more information (the "why, and what causes"). Their staff is the most friendly, welcoming staff I've ever dealt with. They are so warm and professional, and make the whole experience that much better. I felt like my needs were mostly met, the test were run and meds raised but I still went away feeling the same and without clear reason why. Due to construction, It was pretty hard to find the building, but I eventually found it.

They always made sure that I wasn't in any pain. I was glad that they were located in a safe neighborhood. I've been to some other places where I was scared to get out of my car but not here. I've never had any other doctor give me better advice, and it was completely unbiased. They were by far one of the best I've ever seen in their field. It was obvious that they've been exceeding their clients' expectations for many years.
