I used to go here for years but I don't know what happened but this time I was so dissatisfied I don't plan on coming back anytime soon! The lady kept tearing my hair out after I had asked her not to. They also took too long to finish up. To trim the sides and dipping it in hot water shouldn't take you a hour. Especially if when I make the appointment I explain that I need to be out by a certain time. So please don't respond to me with "oh well you rushed us." Please be respectful of my time. I was disappointed.

When I Went To Braids R Us They Had Shows On That Werent For Kids(Im Still A Tween) They Had American Dad And the Show Cursed.I Understand that The Extentions Were Prostetic But i Was Freaked Out whe She Put fire To The ends Of My Hair.Then She Put Beads On.When I Was Done We Got Some Pizza Next Door But When I moved My Head I Really Hurt. For the Next Two Days It Hurt But It Cant Be Loose So I Lived With It It Wasnt The Best visit But It Was Ok

I too had a bad experience. I went for a simpe style (2 stranded long twists) and spent nearly 9 hours in there. The staff is very rude, and talk about all of the customers in French. The worst part is that when I took my twists out, a significant portion of my hair was cut!!! I have natural hair, and I could tell they did not want to do it. I was extremely upset, and called the owner, who denied her staff would do anything like that. However, I have pictures before my hair was done to compare. I will be calling the BBB and the Maplewood health department. These people are bad business. STAY AWAY!!!!!

I firstly would like to say that I am not an overly picky person and I will definately pay for good service and/ or a comfortable atmosphere. I respect family run business and I support the hustle or small businesses. In fact, the awesome reviews, reasonable prices and great neighborhood is what brought me to Braids R Us.
Over the phone I spoke to the owner who was very helpful and a delightful person. We set an appointment and I came in after noon. When I got there, the place was clean and i met with the owner who advised me on my style and made sure i wasnt waiting for too long. Two young ladies began on my hair. The atmosphere was a bit uncomfortable, all of the stylist spoke in their dialect and began to make low comments and giggling behind the heads of me and another customer. But given the fact that I dont understand what they said I made no issue of it.
When my hair was half way done, the owner told her teenage daughter, who was probably around 14 or 15 to help with finishing off the braids. She began pulling at my hairline ignoring the fact that i was saying ow and putting my hands on the ends of the braids so that they wouldn t yank at my scalp. Every braid she touched was torture and she even managed to rip a fresh braid directly out of my scalp. She did not apologize nor did she acknowledge the fact that she had hurt me, even though I was pretty sure she heard that Ouch . i heard a customer behind me whisper She just pulled that braid right out. Im sure the other stlyist who where right there, notice but no one said a word. The little girl just took the braid that she tore from my head and tried to hide it on the table with the rest of the unused braiding hair. I was charged full price, did not recieve an apology and my head is still throbbing.
Like I said before, I respect family run businesses. So I respect the fact that a mother is giving work to her younger family members and allowing them to use their talents. For that i tipped the 2 women who worked on my hair,( not the daughter) because they deserved to be compensated for their time. However, my experience today was unprofessional and unpleasant. I wish I could have loved this spot, because the owner is a sweet lady, but i really cant. My non confrontational nature prevented me from spazzing in the store, but I do believe in warning others. Needless to say, I will not be returning, nor recommending Braids R Us.

I have been getting my daughter's hair braided here every summer for 4 years now. The place is very clean, the employees are kind and caring. They listen and are very patient. The waiting area is clean and stocked with plenty of magazines.

They made the extra effort to make sure every question and concern I had was addressed. I've already told my friends and family about the fantastic experience I had there. Their prices were very fair. The level of care you get for the price is outstanding.
BUUUTTTT, not a place for kids. Last time I went, they were watching an inappropriate soap opera.
