After being diagnosed with a form of cancer, I needed to see many types of doctors for a baseline analysis of my health. I knew I probably needed new glasses since I had been experiencing some difficulty with my current pair, almost 2 years old. After seeing Dr. Shen the first time I was shocked at the level of care she provided. She took her time to understand my past and current medical history to determine the cause of my vision impairment, rather than write a prescription for glasses and send me on my way - like every other eye doc I've ever seen. What a relief that I wasn't a number or another insurance copay since I had experienced enough of that with the barrage of doctor offices I recently visited. On my follow up visit, my infection had cleared. Spring was upon us and it was time for allergy season, with her advice I began using an eye drop -- so far I haven't had to use any other allergy meds!! This has been the best spring season for me and the awful pollen hasn't gotten in the way. If you are looking for a caring eye physician, one that offers you a say in your health I highly recommend Dr. Shen.

My son has been under the care and direction of Dr Shen for two years. At age 11, going into middle school, appearance, self confidence and convenience were a must! We decided to try CRT. The results have been beyond expected! He wears his contacts only at night (under our roof and supervision) and then sees 20/20 all day. He is very active in swimming and soccer so this has been amazing for him! Due to the CRT, my sons vision has remained unchanged over the past two years- no deterioation at all. Dr Shen has continually taught my son in the care and up keep of the contacs and his vision. She obviously taught him verbally, but also reinforced the information through role play and with written documentation to take home. Dr Shen has spent a great deal of time with him, building a great rapport. She truly has his best interest at heart and has been a blessing!

It's a miracle! - 20/20 Vision, no glasses, no contacts, no surgery.

I went to Dr. Shen because I'm near-sighted/blurry vision and I've worn glasses for years. I also had annoying eye twitches for a year. Dr. Shen was concerned about my entire medical history, my work environment, and listened to my concerns. She did a thorough exam and explained to me that the eye is the window for human health. It was important for the doctor to determine what was the original cause for the eye problems. Dr. Shen explained all of the treatment options and what to expect during treatment to me and let me make my own decision about whether to get treatment or not. I did the treatment and within two weeks all of my eye problems were gone. I have 20/20 vision and my eyelid completely stopped twitching. Before seeing Dr. Shen, I had seen other dotors and searched on the internet. I discovered there was no treatment. Now I'm cured!

I like the way that Dr. Shen treated me professionally and respectfully and let me be in charge of making my own decisions about treatment. I recommend this dedicated doctor to anyone who is an honest person and wants to resolve their eye problems.

Dr. Shen is awsesome. I have gone to another doctor for years in the Richmond area. I have a spot on my eye that gets irritated off on on and my eyes have been red for the last 15 years. I thought it was just something that I had to deal with. Also, my previous doctor told me about the spot but said there was nothing to do, except for surgery (if the spot moved into my line of vision). When I saw Dr. Shen, she took a lot of time with me. Not only did we talk about my vision, but also about other health issues that may impact my vision. The amazing thing is that the spot on my eye that I thought I was going to have to have surgery for, has shrunk and I don't have to have surgery. Dr. Shen, came up with a treatment plan to address my eye and the redness. My eye is now white and healthy and not only do I NOT have to have surgery- my vision is better than it has ever been. On my last check up- I now have 20/15 vision. NO SURGERY AND BETTER THAN 20/20 VISION!!!!!! Dr. Shen is a blessing!

I first chose Dr. Shen because of location and insurance coverage (military Tricare). My vision was steadily declining from what I thought was getting older. I was resigned to the fact of needing a stronger prescription. She is meticulous and takes the whole person (medical history, medications, symptoms) in to consideration when prescribing a treatment. Instead of needing a stronger prescription, she treated me for allergies using a simple routine of prescribed drops, scrubbing and using a warm compress. After just a few weeks of this and no glasses are needed at all! Being a retired Navy Nurse I value her professionalism and attention to detail. I now entrust my children to her care and they truly enjoy their appointments with her. She is a topnotch adult and pediatric provider.

My family and I moved to Virginia several months ago and needed our annual eye exam. Our relocation company gave us several different offices to choose from that were in our insurance network. The list was in alphabetical order, Brandermill was not the first on the list. I looked at each eye clinic very long and hard to make sure to pick the best for my family. Not knowing if I was choosing the right one, I made the call for our appointments. The office was able to get us in rather quickly.

Dr. Shen spent whatever time needed in examing and talking over her findings. She made sure we understood and if we had questions, she was more than happy to answer.

I was concerned about my son POSSIBLY inhereting my vision problem. See I have Stargardt's. I used the white cane, read braille and even taught braille at the Rehab Center I went to when this all this happened. In 2005, my husband and I were searching the internet for information on any help in restoring my vision. I could not accept that darkness was going to be my life.

We found an experimently treatment that Dr. Damon Miller in California and Grace Holleran were doing. I contacted Dr. Miller and he felt he would be able to help me. After 17 long months I can tell you I am able to see with 20/20 vision and drive.

When Dr. Shen heard about this and exam my eyes she was amazed with my vision. She said I was truly blessed and keep up with my treatment I will do for the rest of my life.

Her office staff is very friendly and professional. Dr. Shen truly cares about her patients and cares enough to call a patient the following day to see how they are doing after they have left her office.

I highly recommend Dr. Shen to anyone who cares about their vision and wants the best possible care.

I have been wearing contact lenses for nearly 15 years. In all that time, my visits to the eye doctor were quick- I read the chart on the wall, and I was told I needed a stronger prescription. Then I paid for new lenses and walked out waiting to adjust my vision. Working with Dr. Shen was different though. I was taken aback when she told me that my eyes needed treatment before she was comfortable prescribing new lenses. I thought how could that be, since I was doing the same routine I'd always done? She prescribed eye drops, a warm compress, and added attention to my eye lashes. I was told to come back in two weeks to see how much my eyes had improved. After following her orders, I returned and was given a clean bill of health. She prescribed new lenses and I was able to order lenses that fit better than I've ever known. I continue to be extremely pleased with the quality of the lenses and how good my eyes feel. She also recommended a new lens cleaner which has also increased my eye comfort. I have never had an eye doctor who gave me, or my eyes, better care. Since that initial visit with Dr. Shen, she has continued to amaze me. Two years later, my prescription has actually DECREASED and my lenses fit so well I can barely tell I'm wearing any. Dr. Shen also keeps up to date with the latest eye information and updates the brands she prescribes for me as newer and better lenses are manufactured. I would strongly recommend Dr. Shen's care.
