Northern Westchester Rehab in Mohegan Lake, NY were criminal in their treatment of me.

This place treated me horribly. I was admitted in the summer of 2010 after an accident left me in a wheelchair. The rooms were never air conditioned during the day. The temperature in the room would reach 81- 85 degrees the weeks I was there in July-August of 2010. They only turned the air conditioner on at bedtime and neglected those who were bed bound during the day, or in casts, braces and even neck braces. The disabled were sweating profusely in their bed or chair/ wheelchair. Even when I complained to the housekeeping staff, they also complained to me that it was difficult to work in the heat and the administrative staff still won't turn on the air conditioning during the hot and scorching summer. I brought my complaint to the nurse in charge who then asked me to put it in writing and that is when things started to take a turn for the worst - leading to their criminal and inhuman behavior towards me.

My letter was used by administrators and staff to retaliate against me including making a death threat to me on my bedside phone when I was laying in my bed one night. The night nurse had just come in for her shift and greeted me with a very cold hello. Minutes later, while lying in my bed, I received a strange call on my bedside phone. That phone only rings during the day as a reminder to come to therapy during the day. Receiving a call at night never happend before. It was alarming because physical therapy has long left the building. I picked up the phone and it was the voice of the nurse who just came in for the night shift. She works some daytime shifts and done night shifts. She called me to threaten me with death!!!! Her exact words were "you're gonna die tonight b*tch."

I was frightened beyond belief. I reported this to 911 immediatly who later traced the call to an inside phone leading me to conclude it was the same voice of the nurse who told me to put my complaint in writing and greeted me with a cold hello just minutes before she placed that call.

Another way they were torturing me was by not letting me sleep despite begging and pleading with them and even asking a psychologist to interfere and help request this for me. It only made things worse. I had been placed with an elderly roommate with a slight neck fracture who was so overly medicated she nearly fell on top of me when she arose from her bed one morning - if I didn't catch her she would have broken her neck and possibly died right there.

One day, in the dining room, while turkey was being served, there were two varieties of turkey (fresh and processed). Whatever you received is what you ate. I had made clear from day one to the kitchen supervisor that I need a low sodium /diabetic diet. The processed meat was terribly salty for my taste. I requested fresh turkey instead and apologized for eating a bite from the processed turkey. The nurse assured me it was no problem and gave me an elderly gentleman's dish and she gave him mine saying "he won't care." I was mortified but was afraid to complain fearing more retaliation.

A psychologist was called in to see me for a session regarding the earlier police matter and he suggested I contact authorities about my concerns and medical board to report my experience and he was afraid to confront the staff himself perhaps due to fear of losing his contract with them.

The only reason I give them at least one star is because the physical therapy is the only one thing there that was decent. The physical therapy staff and housekeeping were great but the administrator, nurse, and nurse supervisor tortured me with retaliation by not letting me sleep despite begging for sleep as I suffer from sleep apnea and insomnia - they went out of their way to make sure I was roommating with a patient who needed around the clock care and every night a whole team of about 4-6 staff members would noisily barge into the room to care for my roommate turning on bright lights and talking loudly, knowing I suffer from sleep problems.

I've never been so abused and disrespected in all my life. The death threat the night nurse made to me led to me leave immediately against medical advice. I will never go back their ever again. The Yorktown police are aware of this death threat made to me. It was the only phonecall ever received on my bedside phone while I was there. All callers called my cell because only my family and friends knew my cell. Be careful if you're thinking of using this facility. I think this facility should be shut down and investigated for any death or abuse of their patients.

My aunt was a resident for at least 8 months prior to her death. It was always difficult to make contact with her nurse and social worker. Contacting the facilty itself was not a problem. After the switchboard transfered you it was rare to make contact. Even after leaving a message on their voicemail it was unusual to receive a response, even after repeated messages. At this time, two weeks after my aunt's death I am still trying to get a response in relation to missing valuables.

I did not feel safe at all in their care. I definitely had doubts about their qualifications. The first time I walked into their FACILITY, I immediately smelled an absolutely horrible odor. I don't think they've ever cleaned the place. It made me nauseous. I'd rather go to someone else who might actually appreciate my loyalty and business. I wasn't greeted at all when I entered their oFACILITY. I could tell they noticed I walked in, but they still didn't acknowledge me. Whenever I have a question, even if it's very basic, they always make me schedule an appointment, which is extremely frustrating. My father is very ill and suffered a stroke and while he was their at the facility they left him UNATTENDED in his wheelchair only for him to fall and had a large laceration on his head and knee. I was furious thi sis unacceptbale not only did we find him in URINE all the time and if it werent that we his children fed him they wouldnt even notice. It was so sad it broke my heart and my siblings we had him transferred immediately. i am sending a complaint to the Board of health for the foul odor of URINE now I know why they never change these poor patients, very sad. I am also sending a complaint to Northern Westchetser hospital as well who own the facility and was not impressed by PEGGY the SUPERVISOR who wasnt compassionate enough to undesrtand how upset we were and said "THIS IS NOT A ONE ON ONE FACILITY" are you kidding me, I said as soon as he arrived here you were advised that he cant be left unattanded and he was and got seriously hurt. Thank God it wasnt a fatal fall but this is unacceptbale. PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE YOUR FAMILY AT THIS PLACE!
