I spent 12 days at this facility after hip replacement and I felt I was in a bad movie. Outdated rooms with chipped paint and a TV from the dark ages; bathrooms that were seldom cleaned after accidents; the faucet in the sink was installed so that you couldn't get your hand or washcloth under the water and had to splash a little water to your other hand to rinse it. My bed was never straightened, made or changed without my asking.
I cleaned the bathroom 4 times before I could use it; I finally got angry and asked that it be cleaned prior
to my using it. PT came at 7 am, before I was fully awake or had a chance to wash up, and hustled you down to the PT room. After I wised-up I requested that they not come for me before 11 am; they still came for me at 9 and 10 am. The PT people were generally caring and considerate and I got along with them once the boundaries were respected.

The LPN's were a mixture of uncaring, adequate and wonderful. I was able to complete my stay without cracking because of an LPN named Holley who helped me through the tough times and was always kind and considerate.

The unidentifiable food helped me lose a few pounds. The iced tea was warm and the coffee was cold. You seldom got what you ordered.

You were awakened 2 or 3 times a night for vitals and blood tests. It was noisy beyond belief and I had the distinct feeling that they enjoyed this part of their job most of all. Three different languages were being spoken in my room one afternoon and I found it very difficult to understand them even when they spoke English. I have never seen so many foreigners in one place in all my life. Does MC order them by the gross for shipment every few months?

I would never recommend this place to anyone.

Whereas the staff was friendly and my mother developed a good relationship with each member of her rehabilitation team, due to her having dialysis, our family feels that she did not get the actual rehabilitation therapies as much as she needed. She received only 1/2 hour a day when she had dialysis and maybe two hours when she did not. She was willing and anxious to work more. As a result, the healthcare system deemed her as not improving fast enough for insurance to continue her care at a facility and she was sent home not being able to complete basic daily hygienic tasks.

My mother stayed here for 10 days following major surgery between the hospital and going home. Although the rehab specialists seem to have been pretty competent, the facilities and day to day care were beyond unacceptable. Despite repeated (multiple times daily) requests from the family to the nurses, her pain medications were routinely "missed" during the night, leaving her in excruciating pain by morning. Her roomate, who was put in the bed next to her on her second day of recovery, was a woman with an open, seeping leg infection. For clarity here, I do not believe that there is any medical justification for putting someone with a severe open infection of any kind anywhere NEAR a person who has still-healing surgical incisions. When we confronted the staff about this, we were reassured that "no one else is worried, so you shouldn't be either." Completely unacceptable. The rehab facilities themselves are well below par and reminiscent of what you might see in a bad asylum movie. Ancient beds, hard plastic pillows, a radiant heater next to the bed that was quite literally falling apart, barely-working bedside telephone, a bathroom that was never cleaned (and also that was shared with infection-lady), and overwhelming smell of urine in the rooms and hallways, decades-old equipment at the nurse's station, multiple flashing alert lights with no nurses attending to them, creepy nurse's aides, zero sterilization procedures that I ever saw (and I spent a great deal of time there, considering how badly my mother needed an advocate during her stay). I would never recommend this place to anyone. It is absolutely the worst situation I can imagine leaving a loved one in (which is why she didn't get left there). This place is a poorly run excuse for a "skilled nursing" facility. Absolutely not recommended.

My Mother was admitted at about 5pm. I tried to talk to the head nurse and she was rude and could care a less that my Mom was being admitted. I was there with my Mom for almost two hours and the nurse never came in to introduce herself to my Mom. The admission lady came in and got the forms filled out. The assistant nurse came in and got her set up but wasn't very friendly or accomadating. According to my Mom all evening the place was extremely loud. She said there was a party going on down the hall and employees arguing loudly outside her door. Nobody came when she pushed the button to go to the bathroom. My brother went over with a wheelchair around 10pm and there were lots of cars and young people in the parking lot. He pushed the buzzer to go in and someone just gave him the code over a speaker without seeing who he was. He walked in, went through the empty lobby up the elevator to her room, packed up her things, put her in a chair and pushed her down to the lobby where a lot of young people were now hanging out. He said he was checking her out and one of the girls said, what you can't do that and he said yes I am. She said she needed to call somebody and nobody came so he just left with her. DO NOT EVER PUT YOUR LOVED ONE IN THIS PLACE! This is one of the few places that Kaiser has agreements with in the area. My husbands parents are in and out of rehabs a lot unfortunately and I know good from bad. I would recommend St. Andrews and Advanced in Aurora. I am not sure why Kaiser doesn't allow patients to pick St. Andrews or Advanced but they need to know Manor Care is not a choice. I've been in Life Center in Aurora which Kaiser also has on their list and Life Center is not nice at all. Come on Kaiser, you are huge here in the Denver Metro area, let's get some decent choices for your clients, they pay or decades for insurance when it's time to use it, please make it as pleasant as possible. The care at St. Josephs Hospital was Wonderful. I am a Kaiser client of over 20 years myself and their Doctors and Nurses at St. Josephs Hospital and their Smoky Hill, Arapahoe and Highlands Ranch locations are all extremely caring and knowledgeable. Every time I walk past their emergency room at St. Josephs when I am visiting people there's never many people sitting and waiting. My Mom was taken in within 15 minutes.
