My brother was admitted to Kayakamenna Skilled Nursing Facility, last year July 2012 for Hospice Care.
Our family was very pleased with the fantastic care he received from each and every member of their employed staff, from the Kitchen staff, the Housekeeping staff, and every level of the Nursing staff, aides, assistants and RN's,to his treating doctor and their Administrative staff.
The staff took excellent care of my brother, and were accommodating and very polite and helpful to our family and the friends, that came to say their goodbyes to my brother.
Our Mom,96 years of age then, was able to be at her son's bedside until he drew his last breath, and the same for his siblings.
As my brother was getting closer to his end,the staff, brought us coffee, tea, and offered us other refreshments so we would not have to leave our brothers side. That was such an act of respect, and regard for our brother,to be with his family until the end.
We remain forever grateful to the wonderful assorted employees that work for this facility to make it the top notch facility one can count on for great care.
We remain forever grateful, that our brother was able to get his end of life care in Kayakameena Skilled Nursing Facility,in Berkeley, and in city he worked in and loved so much.

The staff such as the PT etc are professional and helpful but the frontline staff - nurses and CNAs are terrible. It is like being in a homeless shelter, the way they treat you, the filth and the carelessness. They barely gave me any information at all. I'm going to have to do my own research to get my questions answered. Their staff was not friendly at all, I didn't feel welcome there. I feel like my appointment was pointless. None of my questions were answered, nothing was accomplished, and I felt worse when I left. The office was very easy to locate. I didn't have any trouble finding it at all. Contracted C-Difficile, while I was here. It is a filthy badly managed place. DO NOT SDEND ANYONE YOU CARE ABOUT HERE!

They answered most of my questions but I could have used more information. Their staff was friendly enough, but they didn't go out of their way to help me. I felt like my needs were mostly met, but they didn't make any extra effort. The office was easy enough to find. I would never visit them again. I was very disappointed. The CNA and every day staff seemed under trained and overwhelmed, they did not seem professional. BUT the physical therapist and occupational therapists were exceptional, and the managing staff were very good, and surprisingly better than the rest of the daily crew. The daily crew were appalling, some were friendly, some were not, but overwhelmingly unprofessional and the environment is so awful, that it feels like the forgotten people. The environment is so ugly and the the rooms still had other discharged people's hospital things in it. Everything is of the cheapest and ugliest quality; the ice machine is dripping and sits outside in the so called courtyard. I can't believe that Alta Bates sends their discharged patients here for rehab. BTW it is owned by the same company that owns the other recommended facility. (Even the utensils almost bend when you use them.) Very sad. If it weren't for the PT and OT I would say it was pretty bottom of the barrel. But they are very GOOD!
