we brought my mom there to live permanently because she has Parkinson's well the Psychiatrist put her on Seroquel & Zoloft at the same time she was confused & he wanted to up the dose. the Doctors never came around when they were suppose too.

she said they pushed her down in bed a couple of times because she needed to go to the bathroom. the employees don't care. the talk sternly to the patients. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.

My mother went to Heartlands to recover after surgery. Unfortunately, I was not able to visit her and monitor the place. Friends that visited her daily reported to me that they would find her slumped in her wheelchair, and staff did not bother to rouse her. My mother was having trouble breathing and told the staff repeatedly. She was not taken seriously, and my feeling is Heartlands simply did not have enough qualified medical staff to properly evaluate her condition. My mother died in Heartlands after calling the nurse all night for help. The nurse told me he was the only nurse on duty for 100 patients, so he couldn't attend only to my mother! So please don't make the same mistake I did by sending my mother here. Stay far, far away.

Horrible!! It is ALL about the money for them. PLEASE...look after your loved one there, please make sure they are keeping them clean and keeping them active... because this place will not. They will let them sit and rot. Don't say you weren't warned!
PS - It is "just a job" to the actual hands-on caretakers, there are not enough staff for the amount of care that needs to be given to these poor sick people.

I have to say upfront that we didnt stay long enough to know the quality of care..so maybe
they had a good staff..but we won't ever know. Brought my father there from a hospital..he has dementia. Very institutional feeling...Being that he is susceptible to falling out of bed, we asked for rails to be put on the bed. They said they don't have any but they would put a pad on the floor just in case he fell out. We took my father out of there immediately.

FOOD: Terrible

ARCHITECTURE: The building is in a good location. Exterior appearance is pleasing and interesting. Interior appearance is good, seamingly clean, no bad smells by visiting time, and no unpleasant cover-up smells. Interesting interior design but easy to get lost in until you become familiar with its interior corridors that branch out from a center desk area.

There are attractive "social rooms" with computers, flat-screen TV, and vending machine (with 75-cent items for the most part); not too expensive in my opinion.

They do not offer vitamins for patients as other similar facilities might, so bring your own.
Note: "Gardens Medical Center does provide vitamins for patients (upon request), but this facility is a hospital - not for rehabilitation.

PATIENT ROOMS: My over-all impression is that the rooms are in DIRE NEED OF UPDATING.
The patients rooms are on the SMALL side (not even large enough to permanently fit a chair for even one visitor at a time and chair had to be brought into the room from a common area room, then brought back again); some rooms had patient beds encroaching in the doorway.
Maybe these rooms were originally designed for only one patient (in which case they WERE ample), not so today with two and even three patients in each room.
- I was shocked to see broken closet doors that were long overdue for repair;
- cheap and old damaged dressers (chipped and peeling, etc.);
- old TVs and only one to a room (even though there is more than one patient in room).

I don't expect to see anything but the best in a facility such as this that is a "For Profit" facility. . . .
