Here are a few good reasons why you should not admit a family member to Colonial Health and Rehab Center.

Nursing care. Very poor over all. I had nurses forget to give me my daily meds 2 days in a row via injection. I reported this to the D.O.N. but nothing was done about it. Some nurses do not know how to administer IV’s properly. I had a visitor that had to explain to a nurse how to properly flush my picc line. The picc line was clotted on 2 different occasions because of the nurse’s lack of knowledge with flushing the picc line correctly. The facility also failed to give me my IV antibiotic on 4 different occasions because they failed to order the antibiotic and keep it in supply. I was originally admitted for antibiotic treatment and they run out so I pay for their mistakes.
I asked a nursing assistant to get me seconds for dinner. She went into the room of another resident and took some food off their tray and brought it to me to eat and the food was not prepackaged. When I questioned her about this she got offended. I refused the food and went without.
I am a diabetic and had low blood sugars on 2 different occasions. I asked the nurse for something to help take care of the low blood sugar situation. She had to buy a cola and candy bar out of the vending machine because she could not locate anything in dietary to help me fix the problem. A proper snack would have included a source of protein along with juice.
I had to share a bathroom with 2 different female residents.
Spotted numerous spiders, crickets, and other insects in my room and the bathroom. I reported this to management but nothing was done about this problem. When I mentioned it to several other employees, they stated it was a common occurrence to see bugs in the facility.
Had 2 nurses question the dressing changes done by another nurse. Both nurses spoke openly about how bad this one nurse was but management would not do anything about her because the facility was short on staffing nurses.
Had a nurse bring prescription foot cream to me. It was foot cream prescribed to someone else.
I was not given the opportunity to sit in on my MDS/Careplan treatment team meeting. Nor was my family offered. This is an important part of patient care.
