Dr. Neal was my anesthesiologist for my hip replacement surgery in February 2012. I cannot say enough how positive an experience I had with this physician. I suffer from PTSD and depression from my military service and I was terrified of going to my dark place. When I am afraid or lonely I sometimes get away from the present and slip into the past and that is usually not good. I asked him to talk to me, keep me engaged, and in the present. He did exactly that. I answered all my questions and even explained things he was doing to me. The spinal was not pleasant, of course, but not bad. He wanted me to curl up tighter but I could not because of my severely arthritic hip but after a minute or so he got it. The whole time he was talking to me, explaining, encouraging. I felt no fear; I knew exactly what was happening and was going to happen. I would have like to have stayed awake in the OR longer as I was fascinated at the activity but it was soon lights out. I woke up cleanly, with a period of disorientation or nausea. I was immediately oriented x3, completely and fully awake, warm and comfortable. It could not have gone better. When I get my next him done in a year or so I will specifically ask for him to take me through the surgery. Thanks, Dr. Neal. I wish I could have thanked you in person.
