I have been going to AA and trying to stay clean and sober for close to 30 years. I could manage for a while, but it was never a matter of would I relapse again; it was always when. I had been on an emotional roller coaster for most of my life. I was finally fed up with all the AA platitudes and all the bad advice I had gotten over the years and everybody telling me where I screwed up! So, I decided to try something different.
Dr Smith listened and put me on anti-depressants and the results were absolutely amazing. I wish I had done this years ago. I have been seeing Dr Smith for a year. I haven't been to an AA meeting for a year and I do not miss all the bullshit.
I have and would again recommend her to friends.

I've never had a problem with Dr. Smith or her staff. Wait times are fairly long, but I have gone through worse with other doctors' offices. I think reviews for psychiatrists by patients should be taken with a grain of salt. The reviews are written by people with mental health problems. Some of these conditions could affect their outlook/objectivity. I suffer from major depression. From my viewpoint Dr. Smith's treatment of patients is just fine.

. From my experience It appears as if customers are never put first here. The staff is incredibly rude and seem to care more about themselves. I feel like my appointment was pointless. when I rescheduled they tried to charge me 75 dollars although I was told at the time I called to reschedule I would not be charged. My mom called and the office manager told her not to call back and insulted her.

When I lived in San Antonio in 2008 - 2009, My husband was in the military and we were on tricare. I was referred to Eileen by my psychologist, because she was one of the few psychiatrists in the area that accepted tricare, and she was the only one who still had open patient slots.

First, a warning about wait times:
My wait time to actually be seen was on average between 1 1/2 -3 hours, with 2 hours being the norm. I think the longest ever was 3 and a half. This is not an exaggeration. If my appointment was at 2:00, then I had to hold off making plans for almost two hours after that, just in case there was a long wait. If she spent that much time with her patients I could understand the delay, but she doesn't. All my appointments were of average length, and she seemed to indicate very readily when the appointment was over.

If she were a fantastic, amazing doctor with life changing advice, I might have been willing to suffer the wait times, but she was not. I was seeing therapists mostly over issues revolving around self esteem, shyness, depression, social anxiety, and other issues springing from abuse as a child. We never got very deep into any of those things. If anything she compounded them.

I don't want to write a five paragraph essay on all the things that irked or offended me. Suffice to say, she was very vague in her answers to my questions, gave me no real advice I could apply to my everyday life, and never seemed to take my problems very seriously (I realize in this line of work she probably hears sob stories all the time, but she could at least pretend to be interested).

On my second visit I confided in her that I always felt that people looked down on me and thought I was a bad person, and it had been hard to relate to and make friends with other females my age. She told me "It's probably because your stuck up". This was based on under 40 minutes of interaction with me. I asked her what I did to make her think I was stuck up, and her response was "well you are", then we moved on to another topic and she never even discussed with me why she said it. I spent the better part of the next year afraid of myself in social situations, worried that I would push potential friends away by being "stuck up", and not knowing how to fix that situation. Her words carried a LOT of weight for me, and It took me a long time to get my self confidence back up to the level it was before. It made me a much more timid, introverted person. She is the only person who has ever told me that I was stuck up.

I have seen about a dozen psychiatrist, therapists and psychologists before and since, and I have never once been ignored, told I was lying, been called "stuck up" or any other insult, or had any of the other uncomfortable interactions I had with this woman. My advice is to avoid if you are able. If you are stuck with her because of tricare, you might as well just not go. The results were about the same.
