Dr. Sherman did a very thorough evaluation of my mental health. He shared with me his thoughts and recommendations. I was relieved (and pleasantly surprised) that a psychiatrist would tell me I didn't need medication! He is a very helpful psychotherapist. Has met me with my boyfriend on a number of occasions to help us through some tough conflicts that I don't think we could have solved so easily on our own. I always feel very comfortable and cared for.

I optimistically met Dr. Sherman in hopes I starting a new therapy plan and gaining treatment. During my initial 90 minute consultation with him, he was not thorough at all in gaining previous history and maintaining structure. In fact, he was unsure of what to speak about, kept dazing off into the distance, spoke extremely slow in order to drag out time, and kept looking at the clock behind me. Furthermore, he would not accept my suggestion of seeing him every two weeks instead of every week (I'm a recent college graduate). For me, some type of therapy is better than nothing. However, he strongly felt that if I did not see him every week, he could not be my psychiatrist. Thank goodness, because I was not impressed anyway. With the outpouring of qualified and prominent psychiatrists in New York City, one would expect a psychiatrist to offer their full effort and reinforcement. This was not the case. During the last 30 minutes, he had no idea what to talk about (again, no structure) and kept looking off into space. I ended up concluding the appointment early and asked for a price discount due to my unhappiness with the service. He ended up discounted the price from &550 to $400.

This doctor was not for me due to his lack of structure and attention to detail that one expects when seeing a hospital affiliated psychiatrist.

Dr. Sherman saved my life. I came to him from a psychiatrist who put me on a cocktail of eight medications that were exacerbating my condition and making me feel utterly hopeless, exhausted, and dead. He weaned me off and got me on track with a normal medication regimen and helped me with psychotherapy. He is genuinely empathic, caring, and kind, which from my experience is a rarity in the psychiatric world. His drug expertise is phenomenal. His approach is minimalistic but on target- he doesnt want to see his patients zonked and lifeless, but having the best quality of life with the appropriate medications. He returns phone calls very promptly and will help you via phone. Though he does not take insurance, he is worth every cent. He literally saved my life. If you are on a crazy drug regimen, or are unsatisfied with your current psychiatrist and/or psychologist, please visit Dr. Sherman.
