I stopped going to this dentist a few years ago, however I decided to review since my experience was exceedingly negative, also I have had several friends have equally bad, or worse, experiences & I it has made me want to get the word out about him.
To begin with - the receptionist, Rita, consistently acted as if the very idea that you would expect her to do anything within her job description was somehow personally offensive to her. She would give an exaggerated sigh when getting the calendar to make your next appointment, or roll her eyes; one time when I called to schedule she actually made no less than 3 very audible and dramatic sigh type noises before saying, in a very rude tone, "Fine. Just a moment. I guess I will have to set my lunch down.. hopefully I'll actually get a chance to eat it today.." At the end of the call, she AGAIN made sure to comment on how put out she was by my phone call, saying, "Ok, all set - unless there's anything else you need?.. Are you sure?.. Certain?.. Or maybe you'll just want to call back when I pick up my lunch again..." Unbelievable.
In person she was about the same - she did always remember my name, though I wouldn't describe anything from her as a "greeting"... more an acknowledgement... the type of which many would probably give, say, the flu virus, if you could see that physically walk in to your home. Every single person I have known that has gone here has given the same description of their dealings with Rita. If you have ever seen the Disney-Pixar movie Monsters, Inc., and can recall the receptionist, Roz - that is Rita.
Interestingly, while waiting to be summoned back one day, a call came in that suddenly made her seem like a sweet & smitten little southern belle - I was momentarily awestruck, in a grotesquely curious way. Soon after the call a young man came in - it was really easy to deduce that this was the aforementioned caller, and he obviously needed some kind of emergency care. It was the first time EVER that I actually witnessed Rita get up & come out from behind her little window, and boy was it a sight!! She fluttered her hands and clucked over his evident mouth pain, she went out of her way to make certain he was comfortable, and they got him back there in less than 2 full mins. It is an amazing thing, what having money gets you.
Now, for Dr. Holleback himself. Let me begin by saying that I am utterly shocked that this man is allowed to practice ANYTHING. I am almost certain he was drunk most, or possibly every, visit I had. The smell of liquor on his breath ranged between "that mask can only filter so much, buddy" & "I would be trashed right now if such a thing as a "contact drunk" existed".
He had a way about him that made it seem like he was one difficult patient away from a murder-suicide, a trigger temper that was unprofessional, and a bit scary, considering he held those sharp tools in your mouth and all. He treated my young autistic son incredibly rudely every single visit - losing patience and attempting to shame him for crying when he was scared, and then again, when he was terrified of the sound of the toothbrush. I never took my son back.
As a patient of his for about 2 years, I went in with very good oral health, and came out with recurring pain and problems, including one tooth that had to be fixed twice now and one that ended up an emergency extraction. He did the very minimum for teeth cleanings, while claiming the whole 9 yards to insurance. He filled three small cavities without any cleaning, drilling, or anything else to remove decay - it was literally: sit in chair, numb mouth, short wait, rinse tooth with water, fill, wait, done. The one positive I can say about him is - the man sure does have a way with a needle and can somehow manage to poke any area of the mouth almost entirely painlessly. The awful experience of those fillings made that my last visit.
As a result of the improper filling, one tooth he filled became terribly painful and infected, resulting in an emergency extraction (went to a different dentist for that); a second tooth was able to be saved, though required a lot of work; a third tooth - upper lateral - I am not even sure what happened there, it had just the slightest bit of decay on the edge that slightly overlapped the front tooth next to it - he said good thing I spotted it straight away, no problem, easy fill, it'll be just fine - filling that one caused him noticeable annoyance & didn't seem to be working well for him, but eventually he said it was done, don't eat for so long, etc, etc. and sent me on my way. Within an hour or so I was in excruciating pain, and a few hours later my tooth was broken, roughly in half, and I was in horrendous pain. It required several appointments and ultimately a crown to fix and to not leave me missing a front tooth.
After hearing from a few different friends about their equally poor experiences, as well as that he pulled teeth of theirs, claiming that insurance didn't cover the procedures needed to save them - procedures that I, with the same insurance, had to fix what he did - they also stopped going. Within a short while the amount of people with similar extremely awful experiences became large enough that a few of us decided to get our records from Dr. Holleback's office and file formal complaints, and report the insurance fraud and intentionally botched dental work. Out of the three of us that requested our records, all of us got treated incredibly rudely, and with suspicion, we were also all given excuse upon excuse as to why they couldn't be picked up yet - this went on for approximately 2 weeks until one person showed up and demanded hers. I was told twice they could be picked up, only to be told when I got there that I would have to come back another time for various reasons - 3 months after I originally requested them I was told that they were absolutely "certain" that I had requested they be mailed to me & that if I never received them that was out of their control; I never received them. The third person eventually gave up.
I believe, whole heartedly, based on my own personal experience, as well as the numerous experiences of others I have heard, and by witnessing the goings on in that office between staff and other patients, that Dr. Holleback, and his staff, treat medicaid patients with disdain, and, that these patients are used to commit insurance fraud. He takes advantage of patients that are desperate to find a provider that is less than an hours drive, and therefore are willing to put up with being treated like they are a worthless annoyance. He intentionally lies about what work is covered by the insurance based on the financial effect it will have on him. This man should NOT be in practice, should not be allowed to work within the health care field, in any capacity.

Their staff was not friendly at all, I didn't feel welcome there. I feel like my appointment was pointless. None of my questions were answered, nothing was accomplished, and I felt worse when I left. I would never visit them again. I was very disappointed. I felt very rushed. They barely spent two minutes with me and almost completely ignored me.
