I wanted to share a very surreal and traumatic situation that occurred when I was at Morris Plains Dental on Monday 5/8/2023. I called the dental emergency line at 6am that morning as I developed a rare and excruciating dental issue, my jaw bone had become exposed and was dying following a tooth extraction. I have had this happen once before so I knew this was what was going on. I returned to Morris Plains Dental as they are who worked on my extraction. I went there rather than my regular dental office to see a specialist and after this experience I will certainly not be returning. Once I arrived at the office I gave my name to the receptionist and thanked her for getting me in on such short notice. She seemed a bit cold to me but I didn't think anything of it and waited to be taken back. The Dental Assistant, an older woman, called me back into the office. Without saying hello, she took one look in my mouth, made a disgusted grunt, and said "Your mouth is really dirty". I was in a very vulnerable position as both her fingers were in my mouth so I responded that I try the best I can with what I have to work with. She started saying I had sores in my mouth and diminishing my pain stating it is a "little pin prick sore". I tried to advocate for myself and tell her I’ve had this before, I know my body, this is bone, and she argued back till I was literally in tears. The dentist came in with the same attitude, she dug around in my mouth then confirmed what I was saying, this was my jaw bone protruding through my gums. I advised that the last time this occurred I was given Chlorhexidine and a 2 day prescription of Tylenol 3 and that it healed within 2 weeks. The dentist responded with "well this isn't your old dentist office". She then told me to go see an oral surgeon. I asked if they had one in the office and she told me "We don't want you here, call your insurance." She then proceeded to say "We’ve told you before you cannot come here". Prior to this interaction I had been there once to have my tooth extracted. I had never met this woman before and had never been told I wasn't welcome at the office. I asked if they thought I was someone else and they said "No, You're always this difficult". At this point I asked again for the medication and advised I would be leaving and finding another dental office as their behavior was entirely unprofessional. Throughout this interaction I had been crying from pain and sheer frustration. This clearly bothered them. As I was waiting for the doctor to write the prescription she was furiously scribbling down the receptionist who started in on me as well. Saying "You always do this, you're the worst patient, you're throwing a tantrum like a little baby". I was done taking the abuse and very calmly called her a mean word that I should not repeat. At this point the doctor took the prescriptions, held them 5 inches away from my face and ripped them up, she then pointed her finger at me and yelled "GET OUT". I declined and said I need my prescriptions. She yelled "Well then I’m getting the police" and ran out the door to their station next door. The receptionist started yelling at me to leave so I told her I would wait for the police. The dentist returned with 7 officers which I felt may have been a bit overkill. They asked me to step outside which I did immediately. They were as confused as to why that many of them were there as I was. The police told me that the majority of them would leave and that they were only there because "she" ran over in a panic saying I was causing a disturbance. They showed up expecting me to be throwing chairs or something. I was having a full blown panic attack at this point. I didn't understand why all this was happening. The police stayed with me and helped me get my breathing under control because I was hyperventilating. They also told me to find a new dentist which I assured them I would not be returning and asked them to document everything that has happened as I intended to make a formal complaint.

Dental place has an entire dental team. Have been frustrated trying to get authorization for a procedure and having the staff return my messages.
